Not that it is a big deal, but I OC'd for the first time around my whole family over this last weekend. Mom hated it, dad smiled, siblings had mixed feelings. I finished my CPL class August 23 at CQT and October 10 I have my Michigan Gun Board meeting for Macomb County. Cannot wait for OC to be a lot less of a hassle.

glad to see you are being comfortable with OC around the family. im going to be working with pat to get something setup in the macomb county area as far as a lunch or dinner event :)

Yeah, my mother was super anti-gun when I first purchased and started shooting. Now she is constantly asking how it is going and is pretty cool. Good stuff. Hopefully we can get a few of us together and have a good time! I'll be interested in joining for sure.

Has anyone had any experiences OC'ing inside the Walmart on 14 and Van Dyke or the Meijer at 16 and Van Dyke?

Do you have your CPL?  You'll need it to carry inside Walmart and/or Meijers.

I thought it was Meijer corporate policy to allow any form of lawful carry, which sounds like global permission to me. (but written authorization would be preferable)

No, Meijer policy is to follow state law.  Therefore, barring special permission for you, you still require a CPL.

October 10 I am having my meeting at the gun board. I was just curious at experiences good or bad that people have had at those two specific shops. I don't leave my little four mile bubble often.

I'm thinking we should do coffee again sometime before the snow comes. Once snow hits, I won't be driving until April or May!

Walked through out downtown Byron Center.  Stayed on the sidewalks.  In the process I walked in front of churches, walked on the property of the library and city buildings. Didn't go out of my way to do these things as they were part of the route I was doing.  No problems.

In Virginia, "follow state law" means CC with CHP or OC with or without CHP. Both are legal and therefore would be following state law.

Be active.

OC'd in the South Haven Meijer the other day when the wife needed to go in to check her work schedule. I asked her if she wanted me to cover it while we walked in, but she said, "No problem!".. :)
Talked with several people while waiting for her to come out from the back employees area, and had a "former" employees ask me "What are you carrying" when we were walking out.
Of course it was my Springfield Armory Trophy Match 1911 in .45 !

Kentwood meijer - was placing my items up for check out.  Guy in front of me sees that I'm carrying as he is ready to pay.   He noticed a manager one lane over and makes a bee line over there.  I couldn't hear all of the conversation but heard the manager say the word protection.  The guy paid for his stuff and leaves with his family.  The clerk was very friendly.  The manager didn't say a word to me.

This morning I went out to do some shopping. Meijer at 16/Van Dyke, Royal Cafe at 15/Scheonner, and in the evening I went to Starbucks to meet with a co-worker. All in all, good day. One of the guys at Starbucks did make a joke saying "Wow, you're packing some serious power down there." which turned into a sexual joke between the group of teens in line. No issues ever because I keep to myself and don't go out of my way to make sure people see what I am doing.

Guy in full military outfit , camo, vest, hat, etc. Holster for a hand gun but carrying a water gun in it.  Escorting kids and moms during a Halloween event at Knapp's corners stores in grand rapids mi.  His hand playing with the water gun in his owb holster and actual draws it and points it at some the adults.  Walks up and down the side walk fidgeting with the gun.  Something not to do when carrying.  Any person or driving seeing that activity would have yelled brandishing.  Could hardly see what gun he had in his holster cause it fully covered the fake gun.

My step-son had a birthday party for his young son at Jumping Jax, a blowup indoor jumping place, in East Lansing yesterday and they asked him to leave because he was open carrying.

At what point did they kick him out?
Didn't he have to cough up $100 in advance to make his party reservation? If so, did they refund?
Their rules are posted online, but nothing about weapons.

They do say "Additional rules will be explained by the staff when you arrive", so I hope they told him no guns upon arrival and refunded any deposit.
