MSP to allow firearms in Posts...sort of.
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:47:40 PM »
Received this from MSP today.  I again asked what authority they have to restrict firearms in "Restricted" area.  I also suggest he inform all his post commanders that firearms are allowed in at least the lobby areas of posts.

Mr. Jeffs:

The Michigan Department of State Police is currently undergoing a major restructuring.  One component of this restructuring is standardizing all signs at each of our work sites.  Over the next several months, standardized signs will begin to appear on MSP work sites regarding weapons.

The new signs will read:  "Weapons Prohibited in Restricted Areas"

Restricted areas of work sites are those that are not open to the public.

Sincerely,

Inspector Greg Zarotney

Wow, what are we spending our tax money on here? So, would the police be prohibited from possessing weapons when they are on duty? Can they still have forks to eat their lunches with? What if someone orders out for steak, will they have to cut it with a spoon? Spoons can be dangerous too you know. And for goodness sake, just look at all those ink pens on that desk back there!

Seriously though, if the policy will not apply to the officers, but yet it is only affecting areas not open to the public, then why are we buying the signs at all? Is Mr. Synder aware of this frivolous waste of the taxpayers money?
