Applying for a CPL in Wayne County
« on: December 16, 2011, 03:03:01 PM »
I will be submitting a CPL application to the Wayne county clerks office shortly. Has anyone had any problems with them and how long did you have to wait to receive your CPL?

Chuckles. Good luck. I'm not from WaCo but I understand the wait there is unusually slow -- several months (up to 6 or 9)?

That sucks, I will probably submit it to the westland office instead of the Detroit office.  I don't have much confidence in the city of Detroit.  Do I have to file in the county where I reside?  I thought I heard that the state recently changed their laws regarding where people can file.

They were trying to change the law, but the bill is having difficulty -- in part because the county clerks are opposing it, in part because some gun owners are opposing it.

For now, if you live in WaCo your choices are:

* Apply in WaCo
* Move

My last renewal was in 09 and it was 88 days from the the day I filed at the westalnd office until it was in my mailbox. My wife renewed again this summer and hers was about 75 days. My original in 01 took 8 months, I don't think that many people are waiting that long these days though, many of the bugs have been fixed. I would be surprised if it takes longer then 90 for you.

Westland has free parking, detroit cost 6 or 8 bucks and westland doesn't have the security guards like detroit has.
I would call (westland) the day you are going and ask about pictures. I have read that wayne county now forces you to buy your photo from their digital camera now, but some days their camera is broke.
The good part is that wayne county has the "new style" CPL once you get it. It looks just like your drivers license now rather then like a 2 year old made it like the old style does.

I applied on 11/9/11 at WaCo Westland office. I was approved by the gun board 11/30. I received my Cpl by mail on 12/17/11. Some people as of late are receiving their Cpl's around 5 weeks. As quick as 32 days, mine was 39 days.
