WHEATLAND TWP. — The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $500 reward for information on several shotguns and rifles stolen from a residence in the 3000 block of Wheatland Road in Wheatland Township.
The homeowners reported the theft Friday morning and believe about one dozen hunting guns were stolen Thursday night, said Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki.
The investigation revealed a rear entrance door to the residence was forced open. Sheriff deputies believe that the suspect or suspects knew the owner of the home because of what was observed at the crime scene, Biniecki said.
Deputies are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about the suspects or the location of the guns is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (810) 648-2000 and ask for Deputy Shelly Park or Sgt. Mark Siemen.
