I'm New and have a question
« on: February 26, 2012, 04:57:21 PM »
I just took my CPl class, waiting on cpl to come back.. In the meantime, if I am concealing, and my shirt comes up exposing part of my holstered gun is it illegal or will I have any problems?

I do not mean that I am concealing illegally either. I mean once I have my CPL, what would happen in this situation.. Sorry, just re read it and it appeared as if i were a dummy thinking I could carry concealed right now, and I can't

No, you're not a dummy; just excited about being able to defend yourself.

Your CPL gives you the right to conceal. There is no law mandating that it must be concealed once you have your CPL. I'm surprised they are still preaching this garbage in the classes.
So, if you're carrying concealed and part of your gun happens to show...no violation of any kind.

I took a pretty good class, I asked about it this morning, he just pretty much told me it may raise some problems because technically I'd be going from concealed carry to open carry. I do wear some loose fitting shirts, and the reason I was asking is because I like the holsters that actually lock the gun in place until you hit the button on the side to slide it out. I think they're fobus, saw them for around $35 at cabelas.   Thank you for the reply though.

It shouldn't raise any problems at all going from one style carry to the other.
Open carry is and has been legal in Michigan since 1837...some restrictions do apply.
However, when you get your CPL, many of those restrictions don't apply.

It won't raise any problems because open carry is legal.

yeah I am aware of the restrictions without a CPL i.e. driving even open carry is still concealed carry, can't carry in places with liquor liscenses etc.  I just wanted to know if I would be in violation of anything if I reached for something, or part of it was showing and some ill minded anti-gun person decided to call the police for a MWAG call. Good to know I shouldnt have any problems. I was debating carrying paddle or IWB so, this is clearing it up to be a little more comfortable for me. Thank you for all the help

I prefer a paddle retention holster.

I recommend the SafariLand ALS 6378 if they make it for your gun.

nope... only 17-22 full size.. I have a 23 I was thinking more like a blackhawk serpa.. I know theres some height adjustment on them, so hopefully i'd be able to get away without too much printing.

Print away, my friend.

Experience has shown me -- unless you are wearing a coat -- you will print and print big time with an OWB. If printing is a serious concern, you should go IWB.

Just feel free to open carry -- faster draw -- support 2A -- dissuade crime from even happening -- etc.

However you choose to carry, I will support your choice.

Opticsplanet sells them.

Safariland doesn't list that on there website because they are too embarrassed to admit they even touched a Glock.  :P

On a serious note I would recommend the Safariland over the Serpa, I have owned both and also haven't seen a bunch of videos of people shooting themselves with the Safariland like you do with the Serpa.
