OC Gathering in Cadillac?
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:00:27 AM »

I would like to arrange an event in Cadillac, MI   I live in Grand Rapids and you have a coordinator there but I own property in Wexford County and would like to arrange an event in Cadillac.

What I have in mind is arranging a meeting place, then walking down the sidewalk in downtown Cadillac handing out the brochures to interested people and then lunch at a 2A friendly restaurant.

I would notify the Cadillac City Police, Wexford County Sheriff and MSP in advance of our "march" to avoid issues and so they can be prepared to CORRECTLY respond to MWAG calls.

Then maybe a OC Seminar somewhere in town at yet another 2A friendly business

We generally work with our hosts but it's not SOP that we notify the LEOs and I wouldn't suggest we start.

When my father returns from TX in the coming months -- I will arrange an OC gathering in Cadillac.

Cool

I will follow whatever SOP's the group likes to use.

When does your father return?

Cool

I would like to try and make this happen on a Saturday in late April or Early May.   After that my fishing business heats up heavy through the summer.

Prior to gathering in Cadillac perhaps a stroll and some shopping in downtown Reed City (20 miles south on 131) where the chief of Police has been quoted as saying "there will be no open carry in MY town" would be in order.  You know, just to enlighten him to the fact that he has no "town".

Haven't been to see my parents yet this summer. The Big Rapids dinner was a Big Bomb (me, my wife, and the local person who organized it), so I don't have high hopes for Cadillac.

Wasn't the Big Rapids dinner the one that was rescheduled  4 or 5 times?

3.  I doubt this effected the turnout.  The final "reschedule" was 3 weeks in advance of the event.

It's just a very sparsely populated area of the state and we don't know many people from that area.

I was thinking that was the reason, guess I was wrong.

I don't think anyone said you were wrong.  The truth is, we don't know the reason.  What we do know is when we have an event in a more remote part of Michigan (say Manchester, like yesterday) we're very fortunate to have 5 people show up.

Big Rapids is very remote.  If you think it's worth another go, perhaps you will set up another event and drive there to attend it? Or, maybe, driving over 3 hours on your own gas money is only the job of MOC Board members? :(

Didn't realize a board member had to attend?
As far as myself setting up something in that area, no thanks.
The only reason I was going to go to that event was to meet the kid that set it up. I work out of state more then in state so rescheduling multiple times just to confirm what I had already thought wasn't worth it to me.

A cadillac event sounds interesting because of the earlier comments about Reed City, which is why I am following the thread.

Nope -- Board members don't have to attend events.  That's the beautiful thing.  We currently have a few very active local coordinators in Michigan Open Carry.  We don't have any in Cadillac or Big Rapids.  I was hoping to find one at the Big Rapids event but that's hard to do when so few people show up. :(
