Man in Detroit fired for finding weapon on the job

Detroit groundskeeper fired after finding loaded gun, handing it to cops | Fox News
 
Man finds gun while doing yard work. Calls it in and cops never show. Man has to move on and later goes home. Turns gun in at local PD.
 
Man is fired by Department of Public Services for possessing a weapon on work property.
 
Cops complimented him on getting a stolen gun off the streets and turning it in. Work fires him for the exact same thing.

Did it say in the article he called the cops?   The article I read said that he just kept working and waited to see a cop just drive by.

He was hoping they would drive by and didn't, so he went to the station after work.  I am guessing the County has a policy against using your cell phone while on the clock too.  Apparently Wayne County feels if you see a gun on the ground you should leave it there for the kids to play with, good policy Wayne County.
