News story

Well i am in a moral perdicament.  I was there and saw something happen but nothing specific. Like how the event went down from afar at night, say 25-50 yrds.
What is a honest citzen to do? ???
LPD presented it on air as someone shooting in the air. i think otherwise.

On a different note, they screened ppl at the gate. Sign said No weapons, fireworks, alcohol. Cool i thought it would be  fun and safe. That is until i got " patted down". Told guy at gate with a badge i have no pockets.  He made me spin arond and i was good with just a glance with no real pat down.  I laughed it off  but now i am thinking differently about the situation.  :-\ it could have been me seeing i was only ten paces or so from her.

Other than those instances it was a great show! All sorts of  private mortor shows surrounding the riverfront park some just as good as the public one. :)

The ban on firearms was illegal.  I wish I would have known, I would have went down there myself on the spot OC and all.

Looks like I'll need to plan to be in Riverfront park next year.

I called Captain Yankowski of the Lansing Police Department to discuss this weapons ban. I left a voicemail as I wasn't able to get a hold of him. He has been good at returning our calls in the past.

Oh really!?!? :o

Count me in for a group OC for a july 4 at the park. I thought about OC there but rode with a neighbor instead which made it complicated.
Side note its also the same securty setup for common ground music festival.

I just received a call back from the captain. He assures me that they were checking for fireworks, booze, and knives over 3 inches (city ordinance). He also plainly stated there was no ban on open carry or concealed carry of a firearm.

We spoke briefly about the tragedy. He tells me that there were a number of officers in the area of the victim at the time and it doesn't appear like there was any violence in that area -- that's all he'd say about that.
