Guns you bought because of media exposure

Mine.

First one: S&W Sigma .40 - hot news when it came out. Glock's illegitimate sister. I still think it is a great gun and I carried it for 13 years.

Second one: Sig P229 - the federal gun, standard issue for FBI, etc. I still have it but dang, it is large and bulky and doesn't hold many rounds (of course, neither does a 1911). I never carried it (and I have carried 1911s).

Third one: Kimber Custom. I bought one of the first ones available when Kimber began manufacturing handguns again, about 1995 or 96.  It was a decent gun, but it consistently shot low.  I contacted Kimber and they told me, "Yeah, we messed up, it's a known problem, send it back and we'll correct the sights."  It was stolen before I could send it back.  :(

Fourth one: S&W 4013TSW tactical. Basically an off the shelf $1K gun from their custom shop. Sorry, never thrilled me.

Fifth one: FNH Five-seveN - holy sh*t! Why did I wait to buy this? I talked myself out of it for years. Dumbest decision I ever made, aside from my starter wife. It is my EDC.

I have more firearms, but these I bought because of media reports.

First was the Glock17 I got a couple years ago, around 1987, because they were going to get banned for their ease of going through metal detectors.

Next was the HK USP40. I jumped on the .40S&W bandwagon because of all the stupid hype in Guns & Ammo. Not a fan of the .40S&W.

Always loved the Ruger Mini14 with the folder like Hannibal had on the A-Team. It is one of my favorite Michigan pistols. Although I don't carry it because of it's value. The folder cost almost as much as the rifle I put it on.

Then there's the couple of .44Rem Mags that I own. And of course one is a S&W Model 29. And we all know how that one became famous. :-)

I've never shot a USP, but their owners seem to universally praise them on firearms forums as one of the best handguns--period.

I want a PS-90 for StarGate memorabilia, I just don't have 2 grand I'm willing to spend on a gun that shoots bullets that are lighter than a .22 LR.

Sigma 9mm with 2 hi-cal mags right after Clinton banned them. Upgraded to M&P 9mm last year.

IMO... They are the best there is in a that type of handgun. I also have a USP45. I like it more than the USP40. I am a huge HK fan. My fav rifle is my HK91.

XDs

Tried one out at my local range. My first two shots made one hole dead center and my third was only off by a bit. It probably helped that I was comparing it to a LC9 that my wife picked out to try. The LC9 had a really long and awkward trigger which just made the XDs's seem even better.

I was looking for something that would lend itself to CC a little better than my full size 1911 for those times when I just didn't want to deal with the hassle. It also helps that I won't have to worry about multiple calibers. (for now :) )

Hopefully I will find time soon to put it through it's paces.
