Michigan Open Carry Rally for SB-59 in Monroe, MI - 9/30
« on: September 01, 2012, 10:59:49 PM »
The leadership of Michigan Open Carry, Inc. is organizing a rally in Monroe Michigan (Home town of Randy Richardville, Michigan State Senate Majority Leader) to protest the lack of movement on SB-59, a bill that would allow anyone with a CPL to get an exemption from Michigan's Concealed Gun Free Zones (this would also "legitimize" the "Open carry in a PFZ" loophole).

Before our previous rally, Senator Randy Richardville called Michigan Open Carry, Inc. president, Phillip Hofmeister, to discuss the bill.  Richardville said in that conversation "I'll talk to the speaker [of the House] to see if we can get it on the agenda in September."  Well, we're holding this rally for one of two reasons:

1. To hold his feet to the fire, if it doesn't get passed out of the Senate by Sept. 30.
2. To thank him (maybe offer him a guest speaking role at the event) if the bill has passed out of the Senate.

Oh, dang!   I wish I had gotten notice of this sooner and I would be there.  Unfortunately, I have another committment I have to honor.   :'(   Good luck to all of you.   This bill has got to get passed.   There is nothing more stupid than a "pistol free zone"  where it is guaranteed that criminals will be armed and honest citizens won't be.   This is called "setting  up a killing field for the criminals"---an open invitation to commit mayhem, and the criminals are, aren't they?

How did the event go?  I suppose you all are just now getting out of the restaurant and heading home.

About 40 people attended the rally.  There was about 25 at the restaurant afterwards.

Any reporters on hand???
"It is now more likely that a person will be the victim of a violent crime than that he will be in an auto accident. Despite this, most people readily believe that the existence of the police relieves them of the responsibility to take full measures to protect themselves."

I think we list many in the I-75S parking lot.

I think we list many in the I-75S parking lot.
Traffic between the accident and the prior exit was at a complete standstill on I-75 because the accident caused the freeway to be closed. Eventually we were routed through a crossover. But until that we were stuck at a complete standstill for 45 minutes. The freway didn't get reopened for another hour afterward. I stopped on an overpass, after exiting and observed the wreckage as the MSP was conducting their investigation.

Very disappointed that I could not make this rally again.

I enjoyed the first one a lot and was really looking forward to this one as well.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys like I said I would. Some things just can't be avoided and health concerns have to be addressed.
