So i got some pretty hard to find and expensive rounds i shoot. I got a .338 LM, .50 BMG 20mm Anzio. Needless to say $5-$50 a shot is pretty common for me. I do like to practice with my triggers but i never dry fire my weapons. I spent some time trying to get my hands on some .338 LM snap caps when i was setting up my rifle and i got sick of looking so i just made my own and the result was pretty good so i went ahead and made a few for mty .357 Sig.
What you will need.
-Spent casings. Steel or brass
-Very small punch or a primer removing tool
-Vinyl tubeing
-Rubber cement or some kind of flexible adhesive
Start off with removing the primer. Just stick a small punch in the case. There will be a small hole or a few depending on the round. Just stick it in there and give it a few taps it will pop out easy. Or just use your primer removing tool. Then trim a small piece of the tubing to fit into the primer cavity. Test fit this you want it to fit pretty good and be flush or be slightly raised try for closer to flushed. After you get it sized ruff up the middle of the primer cavity and put a little adhesive on it and install the part you made.
Now making the bullet you want to get a length of tubing that goes all the way to the back of the casing then trim it to be about the side of the round when it was loaded with a real bullet. Then make a few cuts in the tubing and at the top of the round fold one of the prices you cut down into the round. Now check for function. You may need to adjust this to chamber right but after you get it adjusted its very easy to reproduce this.
I have cycled these rounds with no issues. I mixed them with live ammo and never had any feed or eject problems. Works great, dirt cheap and very easily identified
