Now like everyone knows people are still falling on hard times. Money is hard to come by and crime is gone way up making the need for personal protection something more and more are considering. Now many people just dont have the money to buy a $500 pistol let alone a $1,000 +. Perhaps they want something they can openly carry or simply something small to give them peace of mind and the cheaper shot guns are just to large.
Now a brand overlooked by anyone who has not shot one is hi point. They make cheap American made firearms in Ohio. Now i have shot the C9 and 995 and they preformed flawless and were very accurate.
The C9 is a great pistol with some pros and cons. But all and all you cant go wrong for about $120. Yes they are heavy, chunky, worst triggers ever and are a pain to clean but you know what? After you learn the trigger it is spot on and can hold its own with the pistols from the big guys in terms of accuracy. The sights are fully adjustable the mag release is perfect in my opinion in terms of size and what not. They also have a great life time warranty that travels with the firearm so if you sell it the buys will also get the same warranty. Service time is great and they work fast and get you firearm back to you asap.
As of today i have put 2,000 rounds on a C9 mixed match of field ammo, reloads and hallow points and i never had any issues at all. After getting use to the trigger the pistol was spot on and very accurate. However the 995 magazines will not feed for the C9 but they do make 10 round magazines for the C9.
This brand is overlooked because of the price and how ugly they are. Very few people who call them junk have ever held one let alone shot one. For the price you really cant go wrong. Its a quality firearm and Hi point really stands behind their products and that says a lot. I would really like to see someone make a full trigger replacement kit for these that makes the trigger much nicer but you cant have it all and what matters they did a pretty good job on.
The Hi point pistols will serve you will. Just remember to maintain it like anything and learn your firearm. Just because money is tight it does not mean you can not afford a quality firearm and piece of mind.
Now if you decide to carry you will need a quality holster. Mind you these will run almost more then the firearm its self but a good holster is worth its weight in gold. Don Hume holsters for SW40VE fit the C9 pretty good. Galco also has some nice holsters for the C9 and some that fit the C9.
