Hello from the Iron Mountain area

Haven't started OC yet, but plan to start in the near future, also planning to get my CPL to relieve some of the stress of carrying, also wondering about a fact. I purchased my pistol in north carolina and moved back home to Michigan and am wondering if I need to register it or anything here? Thanks in advance and I hope to have a lot of fun/interesting experiences to share

1. Welcome to our Forums.
2. If you plan to OC without a CPL, don't do it until you've read this thread and the linked materials there-in to have a comprehensive understanding of Firearm laws in Michigan and where and how you can carry without a CPL.
3. Our IT Director is from the UP -- relatively close (Houghton area) to you (at least as far as the UP goes -- within 200 miles).  Maybe you two will get together at some point :)

Thanks for the info, I'm still looking for a good holster before I get too into carrying. I have already read almost everything twice, but I'm not afraid to read again, also going into law enforcement so hopefully I can spread the good word to/through that avenue as well

What make/model of handgun do you plan to Open Carry?  Maybe you can get a holster suggestion here.

Register, yes. Sorry I an fairly new to Mi. Can't remember if you can go to local police or sheriff check state website

Oh, yes....

Go to your local police department if your township/city has one.  If not, go to the sheriff.  Request one "Permit to Purchase a Pistol" for each gun under 30" in overall length that you own.

You will have to answer a basic safety test.  Here's a hint: if you answer yes to every question you will get the requisite 70%.

Fill out the purchase permit for each gun under 30" you own.  List yourself as the buyer and the seller.  Turn back in the MSP copy and the Local PD copy.

10.  I have just moved to Michigan from another state. How much time do I have to register my pistols?

MCL 28.422   Upon establishing legal residency, you should immediately contact your local law enforcement agency, pass the basic safety questionnaire, and complete a License to Purchase.

I was in Gogebic County once.  Seriously considered buying a gorgeous cabin near there on a lake.  Then I came to my senses!

Right, I own a Flock 17 (which I know isn't popular with some people) and I am looking for a good drop leg holster because I wear a lot of big shirts and don't want to take any chances of accidentally "concealing" my weapon

Damn auto-correct. We'll assume you meant Glock. Google "Safariland ALS". First hit should be Safariland's page. Investigate the options there as far as model and model numbers, then shop the web for the desired model number and "Glock 17"


Your search when shopping may look like: Safariland 6378 Glock 17.


Also consider buying the optional "ALS guard" sold separately. The ALS guard is not holster/gun model specific.

Thanks for the info, been looking at the safariland site and found some good looking stuff, its not cheap though, so I'm going to try and see if i can test some stuff out before I actually spend money on it and find out that I hate it lol

The ALS runs about $40. You won't regret it.

Okay Q I just watched the video!  To me that was all to blame on Tex, not on the Serpa holster.  But that is just my own opinion.

SERPA makes it easy for snow and/or rocks to jam the button leaving you unable to draw. Google: SERPA snow
