New from west side
« on: November 13, 2012, 03:18:26 PM »
Start off by saying hi. I'm from the Grand Rapids area and just recently became aware of open carry. I've always been interested in firearms and grew up doing a lot of hunting. Always wanted to pick up a handgun and cwp but haven't got around to it due to finances among other things.

I do have a few questions that maybe someone could help me with though.  First off is most of my commuting it done on a sport bike. I've read that open carry is a "gray area" on motorcycles so I was curious about storing it in the small "trunk" area of the bike. Can anyone give insight about the best way to do this? It's small and I'm not sure a case would fit.  Is a trigger lock sufficient?

Now I figure an easy way to bypass the headache of carrying on a bike is with a cwp. Here's my dilemma. I have been reading up and there are numerous misdemeanors that you aren't allowed to have been charged with in a certain period of time. One of these is "malicious use of a telephone". I a couple years ago took a plea deal of "attempted malicious use of a telephone". Does that disqualify me for being eligible?

Third if the previous is not an issue, are there any suggested places (near gr) to get the cwp?  I'm interested in taking some sort of handgun class with my fiancée to get her used to handling and firing one. Anywhere to do that locally recommended?

Thanks

What was the MCL number you were convicted of? Should be on your court papers.

I see it now.  How about if I slip you a couple of bucks to change his user name to Fred?

Can't seem to find to find the papers at the moment...  The original charge was malicious use 750.540e, but I had a plea deal for attempted malicious use, so I'm not sure. I'll have to dig through my papers to see..

Did the plea involve a "suspended sentence" where the charges were dropped w/o a conviction after the end if probation?

How many years was a "couple years"?

All I got was 1 year probation.  I don't believe the charges were actually dropped because the lawyer said I could haven record expunged so I'm assuming it still shows. It was about 2 1/2 years ago
