I cleaned up from the hoarders after the last panic. Prices plummeted. I managed to stock pile nearly 10,000 rounds of M855 at a fraction of what had previously been real good deal prices before the first panic set in. People needed money and they were willing to dump lead. I also stockpiled plenty of ammo for almost all the guns I lost in that tragic boating accident while ice fishing last winter.

Sorry to hear you got stuck with all that ammo you can no longer use. I am a certified ammunition recycler, and would be happy to help you dispose of it. Just because I such a nice guy, I'll waive my usual pick up and hazardous material fees.
Its not GUN rights, its HUMAN rights.

About a month back the shop in Royal Oak refused to sell ammo unless a handgun was also purchased. They claimed it was because they were low on stock, but their SD ammo wall was quite full (at least as full as it has ever been). The clearly don't want anyone's money.

When the owners realize there is no need to buy everything in sight. It's messed up when I want just one box of ammo for the range and all I hear is, this guy came in and bought everything.

That's all I ever hear too.  I am not looking to buy 50 boxes of 9mm.  I just want like 3 boxes to shoot off at the range.  I'm not paying $20 for a box of 9mm at the range that I have a temporary membership at but every time I have walked into anywhere else that sells ammo I hear the same line.  "A guy was sitting outside the store, and when we opened he bought it all"  "there were 4 guys that came in right when we opened and bought it all"

All I see on shelves are a few random boxes of JHP's and usually about 10 boxes of .40 S&W (I guess I should have gotten a glock 23 after all)

It's either this, higher prices, or sales limits (the store only let's you buy so many boxes)

You pick.

At this point I think I would rather them limit quantity per customer per day to spread it across more customers. One person comes in and buy all the ammo and walks out broke, or several people come in and buy a couple boxes and continue to shop for other things thus, in my opinion increase overall sales.

Its my understanding that even supplies to reload are hard to come by.

I feel some people went and got personal loans to buy ammo...what has this country come too..Debt, hoarding, ignorance, socialist dependencies?

I haven't been able to find any ammo hardly anywhere...any tips without breaking the bank?

Then again, I am just another brick in the wall...

Just saying, in case there are some really nice people out there, haha .40 cal and .223 / 5.56 is needed here.

Guns without ammo are nothing more than expensive rocks and clubs. Not to be a nit picker, but you should've already had enough ammo on hand.

And while your opinion about limiting sales sounds reasonable, on the surface, it reminds me of the government's failed wage and price controls to limit inflation of yesteryear. All it accomplishes is the further interference with the free market of supply and demand. It is nothing more than a form of rationing that leads to increased hoarding.

The market will fall out on these high prices in about a year. And when it does, all the hoarders will be flooding the marke t with their excess inventory. This will have the reverse affect and drive prices to rock bottom lows. My advice is to stockpile your reserves then. But until then... Well I just don't know what to tell you. I have, and have always had, a somewhat sufficient supply.

Remember that lead will be the most precious metal when the economy collapses.

You make valid points CV67PAT, regulating is already overly abundant. I say it from the stand point of I know many people buying their FIRST firearms and can't even get out to shoot them..without spending almost a dollar per round, if they can even find them, that is insane.

But like many others, I do agree that the government has long over stepped its boundaries and needs to be put in check. Our government is best when it is limited to its most basic functions...

I personally don't have a stockpile, but have enough for personal and home defense. I also like to rotate stock and would like to shoot more often but with current market, don't really want to shoot all I have. No one really knows when things will lax again. We have all seen this before, and we just have to ride the roller coaster.

But, when I said limit quantity, I see that from a business owner standpoint, strategic move to keep customers coming in the door, not from a government point. If you ran a business, would you rather have one person come in and buy all the ammo you have and nothing else or have several people come in with more potential that they will buy more that just ammo?

In regards to, "I should have already had ammo," are  you implying I should have bought mass quantities of ammo before I even purchase a firearm of a different caliber? (such as I just recently in the last quarter of 2012 bought my AR-15). Should I have been buying ammo all year cause I planned on buying said gun?

Not everyone has the ability to go buy thousands of rounds in a sitting to hoard, but rather budget in to buy a couple boxes a month for target and protection.

I think (and I am no expert) that prices will drop sooner than a year...i.m.o.

On Target in Kalamazoo, had no 9mm, but decent amounts of most other calibers, except, I think .40 They also had a full complement of .22, which was a bare shelf a couple weeks ago.

I stopped by Wal-Mart in Portage and got their last two boxes of Tula 9mm for 10.37 per box. If they would've had three boxes, I would have bought my limit. That's $5.00 cheaper than the last time I found any Tula at a different Wal-Mart a couple months ago. Wal-Mart did not appear to have any other pistol caliber ammo.

Gander Mountain had one box of 25 9mm for 29.95, I passed over that. It looked like they had several boxes of most other calibers, and a lot more shotgun ammo, buckshot and slug, than the last couple times I was in there. But they did have a decent selection a couple weeks ago, so I stocked up on a few boxes of self defense ammo then.

Both On Target and Gander Mountain had small crowds, that is, not so bad you couldn't get close enough to see what handguns they had in stock.

I take that as a sign that things are slowly easing up. 9mm will probably be hit and miss for a few months yet.

I am debating buying a "bigger pistol", since it seems easier to get ammo right now. I want to be responsible and train firing my weapon monthly as is recommended. I guess a .22 would also be cheap, now that ammo seems to be available. But a lot of .22s I have seen are a lot more expensive than guns in larger calibers. Not sure if that is a demand driven price or not.

Will be interesting to see how long until supplies and prices stabilize....

On Thursday I found and picked up 500 rounds of .22 LR from Michigan Police Equipment Supply store on Lansing Rd, SW of Lansing.  The next day I thought more and picked up 500 more rounds.  They had 7 boxes of 100 left when I left the store the second time.

I just recently in the last quarter of 2012 bought my AR-15

In the last quarter of 2012 you could buy a 1,000 round case (ammo can) of new 5.56 NATO for $360-$380.  Since Obama promised more gun control, just the fact that Obama was reelected should have had people stocking up, even before the tragic Sandy Hook shooting.  That same can of Lake City was recently going for $1,200.

They sell everything to everyone with the exception of new sigs and new glocks (manufacturer agreements).

OK well thats cool kinda, I am looking for a G17 but dont want to pay the crazy prices we are seeing now. I was thinking if anybody had one instock they would, and they wouldnt want $650 for it.

You won't find one that is new/for sale to public.  You might find some deals on some gently used LEA guns.

I found a new one at Total but they wanted 629.99 and that just to much. Before the recent shortage had a friend buy one from a dealer buddy of his for 450 OTD.

Thanks for the info about MPS gonna have to stop in there today and check out they're used inventory.

So I stopped at the police supply store to look at the inventory, and believe it or not, there wasnt much. One G22 with "light wear" for a pretty good price but I dont need another 40. One of the employees told me he had just bid on a lot of 25 G17's but wont know for a week or so if they get them. Guess I will have to keep stopping in and checking.

MPS does sell to the public. But if you want the discounted price on Sig, Glock or other guns you must be LEO or public safety. The trade off for the low pay being a Paramedic, I get Glocks for $400.  8)
