FERNDALE, MI – State Rep. John Townsend (D -Royal Oak) said in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale Sunday that he and his peers in Lansing are creating three-pronged gun control legislation.

"The issue of closing the loophole on gun purchases and requiring background checks and permitting, the issue of limiting the sizes of these bullet magazines and the issue of banning assault weapons, all three can be dealt with at the state level," Townsend told the Metro Coalition of Congregations at St. James Catholic Church. "I am very privileged to be preparing legislation on all three of those issues that I will be introducing with my colleagues in the very near future."

I know a lot of people who claim to be "pro-gun democrats" here in MI, and that really confuses me. How can any pro-gun person continue to support a party that consistently attempts to strip you of your rights or stop you from further advancing them? Last year the dems rallied together to try and stop SB59, now they are planning an all-out attack on the 2A here in MI. I hope you "pro-gun democrats" remember this when you hit the ballot box next time.

(i'm not saying the all of the MI GOP is a strong ally to us, just saying it's obvious the MI dems are against us and will continue to attack the 2A every chance they get)

Remember not to blame an entire group of people (read Party) for the actions of a few. We gun owners should particularly understand that point.

If you have a Democrat or Republican lawmaker that you like, make sure to vigorously contact them to get your point across that you will only vote for those who stand with the ENTIRE constitution.

in the case of the MI democratic party i don't think it's the "few", i think the majority of the MI democrats would support these measures. if not, they need to speak out against them.

if you're a MI democrat you want your party to have control. when they have control, they WILL pass anti-2A bills. so even if you are a "pro-gun democrat", by helping the party advance their numbers in MI you are helping to push an anti-2A agenda by default.

to me its the same as when  a LEO does something bad and the "good" LEO's don't do anything about it. the "good" LEO's are just as guilty as the "bad" ones.

I am a project manager.  I write contracts and hire the construction industry trades (electricians, millwrights, ironworkers, pipefitters, etc.)  Many are gun-owners but their union tells them to vote for the Democrats.  They have told me that although they are pro-gun (and usually fairly conservative on most issues) they really "work" for their union.  They move from contractor to contractor as the jobs become available.  Their union gets them the job, so they feel like they have to vote for who the union tells them to.

In what other world does the employer tell the employee how they must vote?

I heard that too over on MCRGO. But the day after he is elected they talk about introducing these measures, so not a good start.

The chairman of the party has little control over what legislative members of the party do -- influence at best.

Kind of like constituents only less so.

All the gun rights people that gladly told lawmakers to take away from us last year opened the door with the invitations.
