Gun Cleaning/Lubricating - what do you use
« on: March 29, 2013, 02:42:47 AM »
I have used Gunzilla for 2 years. It seems to perform well, but I am interested in what others think/use

I wouldn't mind suggestions on a lube that has a bit more...viscosity.

Those that say "I never clean my gun, I have a Glock", need not reply.

ATF or, because I seem to have plenty on hand, CLP.

All the guns I used to have, prior to that tragic boating accident while ice fishing last winter, I cleaned with M-Pro 7. Then I flush/rinsed with Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber. It removed all traces of the cleaner. Sort of like how brake cleaner works. Most of the guns, except for the M4s, were then lightly and thoroughly oiled with CLP.

The M4s were cleaned, flushed, and lightly and thoroughly oiled throughout, as with all the others, except for the bolt and carrier groups. The BCGs were submerged and soaked, at least overnight, in a container of Mobil 1. When reinstalled in the upper receivers, the BCGs were only wiped off with bare (not bear) hands enough to not be dripping wet. However they were still far wetter than normal for any other firearm. For me, this prevented carbon caking on the bolt and facilitated easier cleaning after extended periods without cleaning.

I use a bunch of stuff.

I'm a big fan of shoots choice gun grease as well as frog lube. I'se use the shooters choice on my rails. AR15's i like the Mobile 1 for surfaces i like frog lube. Also i like the hoppies 9 oil the thick stuff. Really all depends on what im lubing.

I also like the rem oil in a spray can.

For cleaning. Hoppes 9 powder solvent, copper solvent, Gun slick foaming bore cleaner.

I really like shooters choice grease. temp range from -65 to 350f I have dumped mags out of guns and the grease has never failed me. And out hunting i never had bolt stick even in the sub zero temps.

Eds red as a cleaner/lube you can make yourself.
Shooters choice copper fouling solvent.
CLP to lube my semi auto rifles when in use.
Undyed lithium hitemp wheel bearing grease for rails. Note no dyes means it will not stain clothes it comes in contact with. And a tub will last years. I purchased a medical syringe to carry small amounts of grease with me on trips and in my range bag.

I just use basic Hoppes line. Nothing special and seems to do alright by me. I use it on My Glock 23c, Ruger SR40C, DPMS Recon AR-15. Clean with brushes and bore snakes.

Have really been thinking about using the bore snake line since I do use the bore snake. Just not really wanting to buy more cleaning supplies when I have plenty as is. Maybe in the near future..
