Not the type of thing that would be an official MOC event, but I thought people might want to know about this and attend. I will likely be there.

“Reducing Gun Violence in Michigan: A Community Conversation” is scheduled 9:45 a.m. to noon April 19 at the Kroc Center, 2500 S. Division Ave. Admission is free.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – An Advocates for Senior Issues forum on guns next month will ask a panel of community leaders this question:

“What is the one most important action you think the Michigan Legislature should take to help reduce gun violence?”

..........................

In addition to Dillon and Hildenbrand, the 11 a.m. panel will include Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk, Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal, Kent County Sheriff Lawrence Stelma and Chris Smith, deputy director for clinical services with Kent County’s Network 180 mental health program.

A 10 a.m. keynote address will feature Charlie Ransford, a senior researcher at Cure Violence, talking about “Violence as a Disease and How It Can Be Cured.” Ransford is part Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell’s Coalition for Gun Control.

Also scheduled to speak are Grand Rapids City Attorney Catherine Mish, Assistant U.S. Attorney Dan Davis and Cooley Law School professor Devin Schindler.
