Just out of curiosity, how did MOC come up withe their emblem?

Jack as mentioned Brian (aka Venator) had a hand in the original design roughly 5 years ago. WARCHILD had a pretty nice update draft made up a couple of years back along with a few others. Hope the history helps? I like the current emblem/original but as a wise man once told me: there's always room for improvements.

Twice a bunch of discussion about changing the logo has gone nowhere as in there has not been enough support. In both cases a new design was submitted and then turned down for lack of member and board support. I think at this point changing the logo would be a mistake as we have an established name and logo.

If someone good with photoshop could add texture to the holster and shadowing to the image. It looks good, just completely flat.

I'd be in favor of enhancing the existing logo as long as it's still reasonably recognizable as our logo. Shading, texture, etc.

The five-pointed star symbol seems to have originated in old Mediterranean countries. It is, for example, very common in hieroglyphs and paintings of ancient Egypt, where stars look amazingly like starfish. But if we look worldwide a more common symbol for stars is four-pointed. This is especially true in America. Stars on Native American rock art, on tipis, shields, clothing, robes, pottery and other items, were nearly always four-pointed. Sometimes the symbols were simple crosses (plus signs) and sometimes they were carefully made with sharp points coming from a circular center. Only after European contact do we find five-pointed star symbols in America.

I think it would be great to see a gun in the holster, I am sure that it would be a big battle on which make and model gun it would be.  Let the battle begin.   I say GLOCK.

I echo what Ryan said: I'm open to enhancements of the logo, but not changes.

We have too much invested in brand recognition to change the logo.

What's more: We tried 18 months ago and it turned into a big butthurt parade. It's a distraction we don't need -- especially if you don't know a graphics designer that's willing to work for free.

I can shade and texture the design.  I used a flat design because it copies well in B&W, etc.

No real reason other than filling the space.  Stars are often used in heraldry and in an emblem called the stars and strips.

I wanted a simple and traditional design that followed heraldic traditions and rules that portrayed the idea of a holster on a belt...as in open carry.

I also did the design with the state shape that is used on a few other MOC things.

A good design should be simple and recognizable think pepsi circle, etc....

It would be less of a disruption in design to just remove the star.

But this logo has been in use for almost 6 years.  MOC has buttons, coins, banners, brochures, shirts, hats, etc. already in use.

And as stated they use an alternative with the state of Michigan
