They got me too.

The first time I rode US-129, there were just 4 of us at the gas station in Deal's Gap. The speed limit was 50 MPH. And there were no cops.

Now it sux there. The speed limit has been lowered to 35 MPH and is strictly enforced by cops with radar that will jump out of the woods to catch speeders.

There are hundreds of amateurs and Harley posers at the Deal's Gap gas station. The old tent campground has been paved into a parking lot. And a bar has been added to the station. Which makes it unlawful to possess a firearm inside the store because of the bar inside. (North Carolina law prohibits firearms in any establishment where alcohol is served.)

There are constant single vehicle collisions all along the route (especially Harley posers) because of the rides inexperience.

It's just no fun anymore.

Then you've got all those vette snobs in the way. Jeez... take that cage over to the Blueridge Parkway with the RVs.

It had been a million years since I was on it, too.  First time was just a way around the west side of the GSMNP.  And I was in a van, not a Vette.  And it wasn't the popular road it is now.  You're right, though, it really is a MC road, not a car road.  I did drive the entire BRP down and back up.  I just hit some of the other roads while I was down there: Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner 28, and Diamondback.

With the slow speed and the TN State Troopers running up and down the road there it's not the same, but I still had fun pulling through the corners when there wasn't some Harley in front of me.  When I was there the Harleys were driving very slow and holding everyone up.  I am a MC rider myself so I am careful not to get on a bike's ass too much, but come on!   The sport bikes are pretty small, nimble, and extremely quick and can pass slowpokes at one point or another.

I did haul my 40 foot fifth wheel through there twice. Once you get started there is nowhere to turn around except at Deal's Gap. turned around and went back. Won't do that again.

I run my Harley hard through there. Low gears and high RPMs is the way. Scrapping floorboards all the way!!!

North Carolina law prohibits firearms in any establishment where alcohol is served.

They've changed the law.  This is now legal.

Bite me.  :D  But your're right, it's not really as much fun as it used to be, even in a sports car.  During the week, though, the Dragon is patrolled less heavily and there are still people who run it extremely fast.
