What do you carry? :-)
« on: November 26, 2013, 05:25:30 PM »
Was just curious as to what everyone chose to carry. What kind of sd ammo you use. And what kind of holster do you prefer?

Me:
Smith and wesson sd40ve 14+1 with spare mag
Sd ammo: winchester ranger t series. I load fmj then sd and alternate. Then top off the mag's first 4 rounds with sd
Holsters: my oc holster is a blakhawk serpa. My cc holster is a appendix iwb. I got it from a friend for dirt cheap

I also sometimes carry hornaday critical duty. Also purchased a hogue slip on grip for my sd

Primary: FNH Five-seveN with Elite Ammo T6 ammo in a Safariland SLS holster (although sometimes a Blackhawk CQC)
Backup: Kahr K40 .40S&W with Federal HST ammo in a DeSantis SuperFly pocket holster or Galco Ankle Glove

Alternate: Para 7.45LDA .45ACP with Federal HST ammo

I may come back and edit the stock pics above.

Depending on the 'mission profile', anything from a 1911 government in 10mm, to a Browning HP in 9mm, to a full size or compact 1911 in .45ACP. BBQ gun  is a two tone Colt 70 Series in 45ACP. Oops, forgot the .38 Super...

Everything in my stable is SA only, except for one Taurus that has a de-cocker, but I still carry it cocked & locked.

.45ACP's are all Winchester 230 gn SXTs (factory loads) ~985 fps (~495 mft lbs ME)
10mm is running Nosler 135 JHPs at 1550FPS (720 ft lbs ME)
9mm runs 125 gn Golden Sabres at 1235FPS (420 ft lbs ME)
38 Super runs 125 gn Golden Sabres at ~1350 fps (~500 ft lbs ME)
40SW is running the factory Rangers in 135gn

Probably will be switching to heavier projectiles for the 10mm to compensate for heavier clothing this time of year.
Its not GUN rights, its HUMAN rights.

OH NOES!!!! 2 mentions of blackhawk/serpa holsters in first 2 posts.

I love that Gryph carries a FN FN.  It is still on my short list but I just can't bring myself to drop 1k+ on a carry pistol yet.

- My first EDC was FNH FNP9 in a SafariLand 6285 SLS.
- My current EDC is a FNH FNS9 w/ factory Trijicon night sights in a Safariland 6287 SLS for OC or a J-Bar kydex holster for CC.
- Primary carry ammo currently is Federal LE 147gr HST P9HST2 with lots of extra boxes in the ammo box.  I have a variety of other JHP that I stocked up on: Winchester PDX1 124gr +P, Remington Golden Saber 124gr +P and Speer LE Gold Dot 124gr +P.
- BUG is a Diamond Back DB9 in a Talon pocket holster on weak side with 115gr Remington JHP.
- Fenix PD35 850 lumen light on weak side.
- Spyderco Chicago pocket knife on strong side.
- Olympus VN-6200PC DVR

Ruger sr1911 with Speer gold dot hollow points in a galco black leather cop series 2 holster. Love it very comfortable.  Sometimes roll with glock23 again with Speer gold dot in a serpa holster.

My primary carry is a Glock 26 in a Serpa Holster with two 10rd mags. My BUG is the Ruger LCP in a Remora Ankle holster with an extra 6rd mag.  On most days, I carry 44 rounds.

Sometimes, I'll put my Glock 26 on the ankle in a Remora and OC a Glock 17 in a Serpa holster with a pair of 17rd mags.

For the Glock 26, I also use a Desantis Sof-Tuck for CC.  I use the Remora IWB wedged between the console and car seat and very rarely for pocket carry.

For the LCP I have an AHolster Pwii IWB, the Remora IWB/pocket holster.

I have the Serpa double stack dual mag holder and the single Remora IWB mag pouch

For ammo,  I carry Federal Hydra-Shok 124gr +P+ in the G26 and 147gr +P in the G17.  Winchester SX 85gr in the LCP.

OH NOES!!!! 2 mentions of blackhawk/serpa holsters in first 2 posts.

Two Blackhawk Serpas in the same post!!! and both have Glocks in them.   ;D

Springfield Loaded 1911 .45ACP (PX9109LP) with Remington Golden Sabre or Hornady TAP.

MLive snapped a pic at a picnic.

My concealment option is a Springfield XD-S, which is current still sitting back a Springfield. So much for getting it back by Thanksgiving. :( When I had it, I was very happy with it.

I mostly carry a Smith and Wesson M&P 9c.  OC is serpa blackhawk.  IWB is a leather/kydex holster i made.  I occasionally carry it in a home made leather shoulder rig too.

I also carry a Ruger LCR 357, mostly IWB with a custom holster.

I havent yet open carried this, but may at some point.  Maybe just not in the holster.  The holster works great for at the range though....  (and yes, its a pistol, but just so happens to shoot 5.56 rounds)

here it is put together

I could write something cliché and insightful, but that would be too cliché and insightful.

I have been known to carry my American Classic (Made by Metro Arms in the Philippines) in a Serpa.  The sweet part is my custom Red Heart Grips hand made by Bronson!   :D

However, I usually carry my American Classic Trophy in the Serpa when I OC.    :D

Mod note: <Off OP SERPA Comment deleted.  Please take it to this thread: http://forums.michiganopencarry.org/index.php/topic,3515.0.html >

On topic - I carry daily (3) pistols and a automatic out the front knife (legal in AZ - DO NOT carry one in MI). My OC sidearm is usually no smaller in caliber than a 9mm (often carry a FNH FNX-45) and two concealed/discreet carry smaller pistols. If some nut wants to go for my primary - good luck, I will, if forced to - put a bullet(s)in some undesirable places for them, using my off hand. Anyone foolish enough to try a gun grab has one thing in mind: KILLING YOU! Respond likewise.

I'm currently carrying a Beretta PX4 Storm (full size) 9mm.  Right now my side holster is a Serpa. Waiting for my upgrade in the mail.

Currently in the market for a pistol that is smaller for my conceal when I get my permit.

Many people conceal full sized pistols with no problem.  Just get the right holster.  I'm fond of the Crossbreed Supertuck/Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC type holsters myself.

Grif is right. I generally carry a full size stainless1911 (not to be confused with brainless1911). With an over shirt and the right holster (not a serpa), I can conceal it from observance by the average person. I don't have a serpa for any of my 3 stainless1911s (again not to be confused with brainless1911). I do have a serpa for my HK USP45. But I don't use it too often. I'd say how I don't like to, because of the wear plastic holsters have on the gun's protective finish, but I don't want to appear to be butthurt when mentioning my serpa holster. But I do use my serpa holster when I want retention while carrying my HK USP45, because my serpa holster is the only retention holster I have for my HK USP45. I don't have a serpa holster for any of my other firearms.

My 'concealed' pistol is a 1911 Government (5") or a Commander (4.25") or an Officer (3.5").

Of course, it's easy to conceal full size handguns if you're a moose (which I am) ;)

I carry a gun.  ;D

Seriously I carry a Glock 22 .40 cal, open or concealed, or a Glock 27 .40 cal concealed. Spare mags for both of course. The Glcok 22 I carry in either a Fobus, Safariland ALS, or shoulder rig, depending on circumstances, and the Glock 27 I carry either in the Fobus (same one as for the 22), a Galco ankle holster, or the Shoulder rig (same as the 22). Sometimes for just a quick run to the gas station 1/10th of a mile away I will just pocket the 27 in a coat or cargo pocket.

As soon as I get my CPL I'll be carrying a XD-45. Using holster it came with as I haven't figured out which one I really want to get. I'm sure I'm going to have to break down a buy a couple to find out which one I like best. Anyone recommend a mag pouch that will hold 1 or 2 13 round double stack mags?

my next holster i think is going to be a shoulder rig.. i have a galco IWB for my G19, and my Safariland ALS, now i want a shoulder holster just for the convenience... it's nice sometimes not to feel that gravity on your belt.  I'd definitely rather feel it on my shoulders.

I want to get a shoulder holster just for lounging around in the house.  I typically have to carry it around in a holster at home.  I can't exactly put it on a pair of cotton shorts, it will sag down to my knee and I don't want to wear something with a belt all the time.

I bought a shoulder holster for my lcr and M&P, and honestly, i think ive used it 3 or 4 times in the past 9 months since i got it.  Not as comfortable as i imagined.  the holster needs to be balanced, so i store my mags in a pouch on the other side, but bending over etc the holster swings in the way.  maybe im just wearing it wrong.  I usually only wear it on my motorcycle under my jacket.

Varies wildly & depends on weather, where I'm going, etc... it is usually 3 pistols one OC and two CC. Since AZ has knife preemption, usually carry a automatic knife or two also. Cooler weather often carry twin FNH FNX-45's (stainless of  course):P one in a safariland and the other in a vertical shoulder rig weak side. And if I am headed into the brush I will take along my Condor combat machete ... 8)

At the northeast edge of the sonoran desert in the valley of the sun (phoenix valley -huge area, think larger than metro Detroit tri-county area). View is looking southwest. I was walking the dog and was about a 1/4 mile from my house. 8)
