Should drugs be legalized?

Choose the option that most closely describes your view.

I am curious about the make up of this group and what the people that participate in this forum think on this topic…

Personal note: I don't imbibe any illegal drugs. I rarely drink and I'd dare say my caffeine intake is below average.

I voted for pot, but secretly I'd like to see the prohibition of alcohol just to see the wholesale defiance of the federal government by most of America.

Legalize pot with sale/consumption laws on par with alcohol. That means it is not for smoke breaks at work, if it isn't an appropriate time for alcohol then it isn't for pot either.

I will have to check my computer to see if there us any sort of poll but I don't have a problem with people using drugs as long as it doesnt effect me.

If it effects job performance or causes you to injure others then I have a problem, just no problem with someone doing it in their homes and watching spongebob for 4 straight hours.

I would prefer not walking around a mall and everyone being baked out of their skull, that would effect me.

I fully agree. The vast majority of the organized crime network exists to support the black market. Most of the black market is drugs.

Oh, in the case of many drugs, I agree. I just don't think anyone should be able to stop anyone else from putting stuff into their body.

i will agree with that. however they are illegal for obvious reasons, addiction is the main one i see as viable, when they addicted person cant afford more drugs, they commit crimes to fuel their addiction. pot go ahead, decriminalize it. crack, heroin, cocaine. no keep them illegal. thats my outlook on it. as we said at dinner, opinions are like assholes :)

I could use that logic to argue against anything being legal.

If someone breaks into my house in order to get money for the next fix, I have a solution for that too…

I agree with this. I would have opted for the first choice in the poll, however my problem is with the wording; selling in particular. Selling of it should be left to licensed business. I don't have a problem with people doing drugs, so long as it only affects them and doesn't involve me. And as in another post, at appropriate times such as not a work. Legalize and decriminalize, and watch a lot of the crime today begin to fade away. Unfortunately, jails are big business and they are going to fight against such a thing. Same as I feel that there is a cure for cancer but big PHARMA doesn't want to find a cure because there is too much money to be made without a cure.

How is baking them chocolate chip cookies going to solve that problem?!!!

-------

I voted for all drugs should be legal.  I believe the majority of the people aren't going to start using drugs just because they are legal.  I believe that it should though be illegal to be under the influence in public.

My gun addiction is one thing....

It won't because they obviously want cheese puffs....
I could write something cliché and insightful, but that would be too cliché and insightful.

I think you are correct, most people are intelligent and won't just start doing cocaine just because it is legal.

Selling of it should be left to licensed business.

Why? Should firearms sales only go through "licensed businesses" as well?

I'm leaning more and more to legalization..  Tax the hell out of it like alcohol and tobacco.   Keep the money in the hands of the government instead of in the hands of the amateur criminals.   :P   Save money on prosecution, jail, enforcement and use it for addiction assistance and to lower taxes.

Haha, like that would ever happen!   :o
