My parking ticket
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:54:30 AM »
I was parked on the street in Lansing one night, outside my house.  As I got in the car the next day to go to work, I discovered LPD had a slow night and had ticketed everyone who was parked overnight on the block (stupid city ordinance about no parking between 2-5).  So, I coughed up the extortion money and used their online payment system.  When I did, I got this email:

To whomever read this mailbox (if anyone):

This email insults me.  It calls me a "customer".  A "customer" is a voluntary participant of a mutually beneficial transaction.  I am not a "customer" here but rather a victim who has had money extorted out of him by a criminal gang who has threatened to steal my property (my car), if I do not pay their protection money.  I am not a customer, I gained nothing from this transaction other than your organized crime gangs pledge not to gank my car.  You people sicken me.

...then again, I am a State Employee -- basically a member of another criminal gang.  The irony hasn't escaped me.

They never claimed it was the only record, just that it *may* be *my* only record...

I enjoyed your response to that legal robbery.

What a shame that someone had to be so petty to go and ticket everybody on the street.

Are there even any "no parking between the hours of 2-5" signs up? Do you live off of a main street or something?

It's a normal residential road. It's a local ordinance, I am aware of it. There are no signs. The ordinances is only occasionally enforced (when LPD has a slow night).

My youngest got dinged by one of those in Taylor when she spent the night with her friend, who didn't tell her about the stupid ordinance, and it's not signed on the streets.

Typically there are road signs where you cross the city or town boundary.  I bet Taylor has those just like they do around here.  If you miss those, you won't know.

I bet they have a lot of slow nights.  The LPD was on COPS once and they only had one event.  A man and woman were caught making out with each other in a car after dark in Washington Park across the street from Ingham Medical Hospital (now McLaren).  LOL
