DETROIT (WXYZ) - A controversial sign on Detroit's east side is creating quite the buzz around metro Detroit.
The sign that sits on the corner of 8 Mile and Cardoni, near a playground, looks down the barrel of a gun and reads "Welcome to Detroit. Do you feel lucky?"
The man behind the sign, Andre Ventura says he wants it to get attention.
“It’s about accountability for 200,000 children living in a war zone and nobody doing nothing,” Ventura says. "I put this sign up here because as Detroiters we’re sick of staring down the barrel of a gun. So I figured if I put it by 8 Mile maybe someone will notice."
Some people in the area say it's not a pretty message, but they say it's the truth. Others say the sign sends the wrong message and gives the city a bad name.
This sign has actually replaced one that previously read "Save Detroit. Adopt a crackhead."
