DETROIT, MI -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say they temporarily seized a .50-caliber machine gun manufactured in Ohio when it arrived at the Fort Street Cargo Facility in Detroit May 13 because it wasn't documented properly.
Officials eventually returned the cargo to the Canadian shipper after imposing a fine.
The shipment had only an electronic manifest and no invoice describing the cargo.
The driver's manifest listed the shipment as "Cal Machine gun parts" and gave a generic email address, officials say.
"The shipment was in fact, an assembled .50 caliber machine gun manufactured by an Ohio company."
