Forum Hosting Transition / Upgrade
« on: July 15, 2014, 05:40:18 PM »
Folks,

I anticipate transitioning where the forums are hosted late this evening or early tomorrow morning (call it a maintenance window of 2200-0600), as well as upgrading the software while I'm at it. Bas

If all goes according to plan, downtime should be around an hour tops.

During the process, the forum will be in "Maintenance Mode" and you won't be able to post or really do much of anything else.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

What's your backout plan?  Murphy's law.  If you have one, you never need it.
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace. Luke 11:21

Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one."  Luke 22:36

My backout plan is that if things are looking to go sideways, DNS doesn't get changed and I disable Mx mode.

Actually, I'm holding off for now.

Wide Open West is being shady, and I really don't need a connection to drop mid operation.

The *best* part is that Bluehost won't let me run screen!

I'm going to wait until tomorrow when I get into work - early.

I have linux boxes in two Tier 3 datacenters and one Tier 4 datacenter that support screen.  I'm guessing you do too.

Yeah... it's that good..

Also, for shits and giggles, I decided to turn up the frequency of smokeping. 20 pings at 30 second intervals (as compared to the default 5 minute) - just so if I ever feeling like smacking WoW around, I can:

Well done, Jason. I recall a certain other gun org updated their Forum and they were down for over a week...beyond their maintenance window.

I can't remember - does that certain other gun org pay their staff?
