...because he was wearing his Army uniform.  He was told the Army uniform might offend some students.

Rogue security worker or security worker thrown under the bus for following idiotic orders?

From the WND report (and the FOX 2 report it was taken from):

Rochester School superintendent Robert Shaner, a military veteran himself, has apologized to the family.

He addressed the controversy in a letter written to the TV station.

“The district has apologized for any perception that individuals in uniform are not welcome in the school. The district does not have a policy excluding individuals in uniform and will be working with administration and the firm that handles our security to make sure district policies are understood and communicated accurately.”

XD might have a point.

The badge weighs heavy on some LEOs, but much heavier on some of the guys who work as security guards because the police wouldn't take them.
If he works for the school, give him a couple weeks without pay to think about the disadvantages of enforcing rules that don't exist.
If he works for a private contractor, have them reassign him to other work outside the school system.
Either way, his coworkers should get the message that too much zeal can be a bad thing.

We have recruiters in uniform in our high school weekly they setup a table in our cafeteria. We have soldiers in dress uniform at our awards ceremonies . No one has ever been offended. This is likely a security guard who got kicked out of the military or is embarresed he never served.
Anything I post may be my opinion and not the law... you are responsible to do your own verification.

Blackstone (1753-1765) maintains that "the law holds that it is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer."
