HB4914 - SWAT Transparency

(1/1)

jgillmanjr:
I mean, transparency? Who needs that?

CitizensHaveRights:
What you are seeing here is that Law and Order Conservatives have no interest in bringing law and order to law enforcement, probably because LEOs consider accountability measures to be anti-cop.

I hope the text of the bill defines what SWAT is, or cities like Lansing could say 'no SWAT here, just START, so this bill doesn't apply to us'.

TheQ:
What happens if they failed to report? Does the bill have any teeth? Does the agency/local gov lose funding?

Unfortunately, no teeth I could find.

--- Quote ---Sec. 7. If a law enforcement agency fails to comply with the

reporting provisions of this act, the department of attorney

general shall report the noncompliance to the Michigan commission

on law enforcement standards. Upon receipt of a report of

noncompliance, the Michigan commission on law enforcement standards

shall contact the law enforcement agency and request that the

agency comply with the required reporting provisions. If the law

enforcement agency fails to comply with the request of the Michigan

commission on law enforcement standards within 30 days, the

department of attorney general and the Michigan commission on law

enforcement standards jointly shall report the noncompliance to the

governor and the secretary of the senate and the clerk of the house

of representatives.

Let's hold civil servants accountable by passing another law they don't have to obey?

I think some amendments are needed to this bill.

My Senator used to be my Sheriff.
I think I'll contact him about this and see what sort of reply I get.
