Another LEO falls victim to gun violence

According to Noonan, Kedra was shot in the chest during a training exercise at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Complex on the 1100 block of Conshohocken Road around 4:45 p.m.

Sources say he was in a classroom for a demonstration of how to break down and clean his service weapon. They say an experienced state police firearms instructor was handling a gun that somehow misfired.

The bullet hit trooper Kedra in the chest.

He was rushed to Temple University Hospital and died a short time later.

Is "somehow misfired" the new euphemism for "discharged a bullet when the trigger was pulled"?
We know 100% that somebody muzzled a student.
We might not know 100.0%, but do know beyond reasonable doubt, that he pointed a gun at a student and pulled the trigger.

Question: if a CPL instructor who didn't possess a badge shot and killed a student, would he leave the building in handcuffs?

As one commenter stated: The blame is undoubtedly on the operator who treated a loaded gun as if it were empty (violating the first rule of firearm safety), pointed it at an innocent person he did not intend to shoot (violating the second rule of firearm safety), and pulled the trigger (violating the third rule, and then some).

And, as an added bonus, the student/trooper/homicide victim gets added to the tally of

1. LEOs killed in the line of duty, helping to justify 'officer safety' measures like shooting innocent people without bothering to figure out if they're a threat.
2. Accidental firearms deaths, helping to justify all sorts of restrictions on the majority of gun owners who aren't cops and haven't shot anybody.

Homicide seems a bit of a reach. Manslaughter seems more appropriate. Since when have prosecuting attorneys concerned themselves with ethics?
