Police in Beloit are launching a new effort to reduce gun violence in which they’re asking city residents to let them search their homes for guns.

So they will assume that those houses that won't submit to voluntary home searches will have guns in them.

"Why can't we search your house if you have nothing to hide?"

Of course, there's always this.  If cops search your house and find out little Suzy or Billy has some marijuana hidden in their sock drawer, especially several packets, they can seize your house under the forfeiture laws and keep the proceeds. It's happened, most recently in Pennsylvania in the last case I'm aware of.

Dear LEO union rep, "Why can't we put a body cam on cops and punish them for turning it off if they have nothing to hide?"

The Beloit, Wisconsin Police Department today withdrew an offer made by Chief Norm Jacobs to have officers search homes for firearms after publicity over the proposal created a public outcry across the Internet.
