I often clear my jams with the muzzle shoved into my shoulder for leverage too.  What could go wrong?

He threw the gun in the river??  And the police didn't find it?     My BS O'Meter is going off.  I get the feeling that he didn't shoot himself .... someone else shot him in a drug deal gone bad and he doesn't want to admit it.  But that is just my theory.

If it was a close shot wound such as cleaning, there should be a muzzle burn from the flash.
