Michigan Open Carry, Inc & Michigan Gun Owners are pleased to announce a joint luncheon on Sunday August 9th at 2pm at the Great Lakes Family Dinner (963 S Grand Avenue) in Fowlerville.
Both groups are very honored and excited to have Donald R Burgett as our very special guest. Here is a little history for anyone not familiar with Mr. Burgett.
Donald R. Burgett (born April 5, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan) is a writer and a former World War II paratrooper. He was among the airborne troopers who landed in Normandy early on the morning of D-Day. He was a member of the101st Airborne Division, ("The Screaming Eagles"), and the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Burgett served in 'A' Company, 1st Battalion, 506th PIR as both a rifleman and a machine-gunner.
Mr. Burgett wrote 4 books on his memories. One was regarded as the best book about the Second War: “currahee” about Normandy which was written in 1962 and was published in 1967. This book was approved by General Eisenhower himself and was published in 14 countries and also French.
His other books are: “The Road to Arnhem” about Holland, “Seven roads to Hell” about Bastogne and “Beyond the Rhine” about Germany. He also did several documentaries for the television and some others for the papers like “The New Yorker” or “Life”. His last realization is a DVD: An Eagle Returns part 1: Normandy.
Mr. Burgett currently lives in Howell, Michigan. In addition to writing four books, he has also done a number of History Channel specials on World War II.
