The hunters didn't think this would happen.  Neither did I.

Sadly, he committed a felony.  He manufactured a Title II weapon without first paying a tax.  Possession of an unregistered Short Barrel Shotgun is a felony punishable by 10 years in prison.

And THAT is how gun laws punish law-abiding citizens.

Also, I didn't see that coming either.

Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one."  Luke 22:36

Well, you can do that with rifles and pistols, but I guess a shotgun barrel is too thin.  I read that it's only about one third the thickness of a rifle barrel.

The results may have been different with a fully submerged barrel and chamber. In this particular case, the water partway up the barrel appears to have made a rather effective plug, thus shearing the barrel off just above the plug thus formed.

I agree. The shot was moving fully normally until the explosion pressure hit the water. At which point (given the speed it was moving) it may as well hit a thick, wielded in, steel plug. It would have had the same outcome.
