Self defense shooting training
« on: October 02, 2015, 04:13:26 PM »
Anyone know of a place in lower Michigan that does defensive shooting training? Shooting targets is great, but I want something more intensive. Multiple combatants, urban, and wooded scenarios...

Or, does anyone have enough land that we could set something up?

I live in Jackson, but would be willing to drive two hours to make a day of it.

Thoughts?

The guys I got my CPL class from seemed pretty good, but I haven't taken their advanced courses:

Linux203  took a class this summer with ATHG, they even practiced shooting through a windshield.

That was Defensive Handgun II that used the vehicle.  We also used the vehicle in Defensive Carbine II.

Glenn has a Defensive Handgun I on 10/17 and the second class on 10/18.  The classes are in Adrian.  It was definitely worth the drive from Lansing for the four classes I've taken.  Should only be a 45 minute drive down Us-127/US-223 from Jackson.

MDFI (Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute).  They typically hold outdoor SD classes in Pinckney.

You can read about my training with them here:

Handgun I is now called Foundation Hangdun and Handgun II is now called Handgun Cover and Movement.

I'll second MDFI. They are done for the season though. If you are looking for something before spring, Steve Fisher at Sentinel Concepts is going to be running some classes indoors in Ann Arbor this winter at Ann Arbor Arms.

Thanks Divegeek. I'll check them out. I really like AA Arms, and their new space is really nice. If course, everytime I walk out of there, I have some new toy... Ha ha
