Attack at GM Tech Center in Warren
« on: February 10, 2016, 02:26:46 PM »
Attack is stopped by--wait for it--a valet driver with a CPL and pistol!  Yes, weapons are prohibited at the GM Tech Center.

WARREN (WWJ) - Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said an African American woman walked into the lobby of the visitor’s area and asked for an employee, another African American woman, by name.

“That female came down. They spoke a few minutes and then walked outside in front of the lobby,” Fouts told WWJ’s Zahra Huber.

The women got into some kind of verbal dispute, Fouts said, during which the visitor pulled out a steak knife and violently stabbed the employee several times in the neck, abdomen and back.

A nearby valet driver, who also has a concealed pistol license, saw what was happening and rushed to the employee’s aid.

“He pulled the weapon out and stopped the attack from taking place,” said Fouts. “By then, this woman had been stabbed multiple times.”

The driver held the attacker on the ground at gunpoint as other GM workers called 911.

(Warren Mayor Jim) Fouts said the valet driver might have very well saved the employee’s life.

“This valet driver, by having his concealed weapon — and I guess there’s an argument that people should be able to have a concealed weapon — he was able to stop this violent act from reaching a very unfortunate end,” he said. “And as it is, the woman is in critical condition but hopefully she will survive.”

So, are they waiting for the publicity to die down before they fire him, or is he not a GM employee?

Thanks for posting gryphon!  I'm glad that Mayor Jim Fouts said it happened in such a nice neighborhood..... it only goes to show that we need to carry everywhere, everyday as one never knows what can happen.

And I thought that Fouts was anti gun ..... maybe this will help temper his opinion.

So, are they waiting for the publicity to die down before they fire him, or is he not a GM employee?

From the Click On Detroit article linked by gryphon:

Quote
Sarder was escorted off the property by GM security officials. He did not lose his job at the valet company that is contracted by GM, but was told he is not allowed to work at the tech center because he was carrying a gun on company property.

“I was surprised to hear that,” Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said. “If I get a chance, I’m going to call him up and commend him.”

GM said they are investigating.

I hope the Mayor follows up with the phone call.
