Anyone wanna OC at target with me?
Do you normally shop at Target? Is this a trip you were going to take anyways, or is it just because of the recent announcement by Target? Are you sure intentionally going into a place that is currently the center of a gun rights debate is the best option for someone like you that has had so many issues recently?

I'm not saying this to be a jerk, just asking becasue you seem to have many more issue than the rest of us do while OC'ing in our daily life.

Edit- also, why would you want to financially reward a company that just took an anti-gun stance and caved to a bloomberg pressure campaign?

Which Target will you be going to? Like I mentioned in another post I have already been into one of the Targets on Wednesday here in the Kzoo area with no issues. I may need to go tomorrow to pick up a few things and if we happen to be at the same Target at the same time that would be a coincidence. So, which Target and a general time? Otherwise I would be willing to meet up with you and grab some lunch this weekend if you want.

Stop shopping at Target and tell them why you will no longer shop there!

Thats the weird thing. If you exanine their statement, they never actually said you can not have a firearm. They will encourage us not to. Usually I think a company taking a stand is a bit more bold. This sounds like them trying to be politically neutral.

Honestly I think if they were to say they welcome pistols but discourage long guns, it would turn out better for them as a company.

"Our approach has always been to follow local laws, and of course, we will continue to do so, but starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target — even in communities where it is permitted by law."

So basically, go ahead and bring your firearms in, but we don't want you to bring them in even when we know for sure that it's a legal activity.  We want everyone to know we don't want firearms in our store so that when someone sees a firearm they KNOW you are doing something wrong thus increasing the probability of trouble or harassment.  But go ahead and bring them in anyways because we want your money, just know that we don't want you here.

All target had to do was say "We will follow the laws of the state and nobody is going to sway our opinion otherwise"  Then everyone would have F'd off but they had to bow down and say something to satisfy the Bloomtards.

Private property is the essence of what rights are about. We are about all about rights as gun rights activists.

Even with a "soft ban" OCing in a place where the owner(s)/CEO/whoever else in charge asked you not to is a counter productive action which spits in the face of the liberty movement. Please do not do it. If you want to spite them, my suggestion would be organize boycotts.

What rights do businesses open to the public have?  We're not talking about a private home.

I disagree.  You are correct, private property trumps most (but not all).  However, if XYZ corporation doesn't want guns, all they have to do is ban them.  It's extremely easy.  Target has chosen not to ban guns.  Starbucks has chosen not top ban guns.  Jack in the Box has chosen not the ban guns.  Chipotle has chosen not to ban guns.  Sonic has chosen not to ban guns.

You want to boycott someone?  Boycott Wal*Mart.

Target made their choice, and went the cowards way. There is nothing in Target (or other like them) that I cannot purchase elsewhere. No need to organize a boycott. Some people who value human rights will naturally not patronize those establishments. Those who don't, are certainly welcome to support companies that cheerfully throw human rights under the bus in favor of profits. You get the future you 'vote' for.

I can understand Target's position here.  Target is not in the gun rights, or gun control business.  They are in the "sell stuff to people and make money" business.  They were pushed into the debate by the "bloomtards" (I like that one) and they tried to back out of it in a way that PO'd the fewest people.  So they made their statement that didn't really say anything and hoped MDA would back off and they could go about their business.
I don't typically respect "fence-riding", but they don't really have a dog in this fight, they made a business decision that they hope will have the most people continuing to buy their stuff.

I agree, they are trying to be non political. there is nothing wrong with that, but being that they are not caving to the pressure i think that means soemthing, thats why i'm willing to give them my money.

now, the gun show, i'm protesting it next time, as they are very anti gun.

They did cave to the pressure.  That's why they made the statement that they don't want people to bring guns in their stores even when in areas where it's permitted.  That IS caving to the pressure.  They could have done the Staples thing and said.  Eat a huge bag of veiny dicks, we will follow the laws of the state.

And, go away I shall. A simple 'we follow the law' would have stymied the pressure from the people who advocate violating human rights.

Shadow Bear, if we all (legal gun) carriers just go away or stop shopping at these stores that "Prefer we leave our guns at home" doesn't that mean that the anti's have won?? I mean if there are no more legal gun owners in Target who does that leave? If I on the other hand still shop at Target and an Anti sees me, do I not prove I CAN AND WILL still be around?

I don't want to argue whether people feel they should or shouldn't, but I am wondering your thoughts on this. I have never said I couldn't be swayed to stop shopping at these places.

These words are pretty clear to me
"asking people not to bring firearms into its stores"

If I ask you to not come to my home, will you still continue to show up?

If I ask you not to bring a firearm to my house, will you still show up?

So it is ok to carry at target after they say they don't want guns in their stores but not ok to carry at a gun show that says the same as target? You want to protest one and reward the other with your money.

Seems pretty basic to me...

HA!

But I do feel bad for the people who were in danger.  IMO, carry your gun anyways.  Don't want to let some restriction or statement jeopardize your life.  Like CC in a movie theater.  A long time ago on the news they were interviewing gun shop owners and instructors and they were even saying that people need to weigh the pros and the cons.  The cons of not having your firearm could get you killed, or possibly a fine for carrying and which would you prefer to be killed or get a fine? (something alone those lines)

Of course when someone makes such a bold statement of "we don't want you in here with your guns" it becomes a more dangerous place and should probably be avoided anyways.

Title: Re: Anyone wanna OC at target with me?
Post by: Jeff on July 10, 2014, 04:48:18 PM
Not that exact quote but in general that's what they ultimately are saying whenever they have these silly anti gun statements.

If someone said, John Doe isn't very intelligent, never thinks before he speaks, never learned any tact, everything he says is wrong and makes little sense.    It's easier to just realize they want to say "John Doe is stuipd"

And that's basically what all those places are saying is "we don't want you in here with your guns"

If you rent to generalize, they were saying please do not politicize us with the gun debate, we just want to sell stuff

Oh, btw, for those that did not see it, the article was just a ploy. As if nobody anywhere in any other parking lot for robbed that day

Target was clear in their message, leave your firearms at home, we don't want them in our stores.

We should abide by their request and leave our firearms at home, right next to our wallets and car keys.

Virtually every mass murder has taken place in a legislative or commercial gun free zone.  It's also been well documented that crimes are higher in these GFZ.  You can rationalize to yourself that the request somehow doesn't apply to you, and crime happens everywhere, but until everybody stops shopping at Target and sends them a message, these companies will continue down the path of "feel good" policy to satisfy bloomberg and his minions.

You are absolutely right that they don't have to be anti-gun to tell us not to bring guns into their stores.

Saying "Please" though doesn't make the policy any less offensive...

"Please, do not bring guns into our stores."

It is just as offensive as...

"Do not bring guns into our stores."
