Title: Another Cops gun went off when cleaning
Post by: Langenc on December 03, 2015, 07:29:35 PM
Was reading a TC Eagle paper at the barbershop yesterday. Somewhere buried it mentioned that a Deputies gun went off when he was doing some maintenance. The dept would not give the address of where this occurred.

Shooter notified supervisor and of course a big investigation will follow.

I always wondered how many of these 'cleaning NDs' actually happened during maintenance operations. Especially the ones that zap the wife in the head. The ones that don't result in a clean kill, I usually assume are somebody playing with a gun and making up the cleaning story.

But it is possible:
1. remove magazine.
2. pull trigger to decock.
3. look at new hole in floor and think "WTF?"

Did the deputy do it, or did the armorer do it?
With all the ND stories about weapons training officers, it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if it were the armorer.
Sounds like it happened in the Sheriff's offices.

Grand Traverse County sheriff's office is investigating one of their own after the deputy’s gun accidentally went off.

The sheriff's office says the gun discharged early last month when the deputy was having some work done on it.

It happened at the gun cleaning station in the building.

No one other than the deputy was in the building at the time and no one was hurt when the gun accidentally fired.

When the investigation is finished, the sheriff's office will send it over to the prosecutor's office to look over it.

Hold it. Was the deputy having the deputy work on the deputy's gun, or does that make no sense at all?
Maybe he was clearing it before leaving it for the armorer to work on later?
