O yea it is!

OC'ed again at Magnum Force gun shop to pick up my new C45. While standing there a guy was butting into the conversion I was having with the Gun Clerk, he had heard me mention Open Carry.

Him: Well that's a STUPID was to carry a Gun!
Me: Oh you mean like this (as I point to my gun)
Him: ah, yea, whoops sorry!
Me: Not a problem!

after that he asked me a question about taking the gun to the police station for a safety inspection, both me and the clerk told him it was no longer required.

I seen no need to talk to him about Ocing, since he though it was stupid

Took My gun and a made a trip to the police to drop off my paper work and went home!

Forgot to mention, I also OCed at my Doctors office today for the first time to test the waters, as I complained about being over charged for a office visit.  Talked to the office manager, they to the doctor, and while i am sure the office mgr did not see it, the doctor got a direct view of it as he stood down the hall with my strong side to him, I did see a startled look on his face for a minute but besides that, no issues; I was there about 15 minutes

Oced at the Monroe's 9-11 bike rally for 2 hours, lots of cops lots of looks but no issues other than the other bikers asking me if i would stand guard and protect their bikes.  I kindly said.............NO!  I know my brother bikers had their weapons with them, but they were all too chicken to OC..oh well!!!!!

Oced at Checkers pickup window picking up the wife her dinner after the rally, again no issues!

On my way home this afternoon on my bike, I was sitting in the left turn lane of NBTelegraph at Stewart road.
I notice another motorcycle behind me.  His head was bobbing around and then I noticed that he was inching up to my side. I look over gave him the old "Man" nod and he said:

Him:  Your going to get you asp in trouble carrying your gun around like that.

Me:  No im not, its total legal!

Him:  Are you shipting me?

Me:  No

Him:  How long you been carrying out in the open like that?

me:  About a year and half

Him:  NO problems with the cops

Me:  Were you at the bike rally downtown last night

Him:  No

Me:  I was there for a couple of hours with cops all over the place and not one issue from them

Him: Damn, im going to have to look into that

Unfortunately the light turned green and I was unable to give him any info as he took off and left me in a cloud of dust!

(Btw the misspelled xxx words were on purpose)

Oced at Auto_lab on Monroe street and Dunbar....got a kick out of one employee, who's eyes opened wide as I walked in, and then scurried off.  As the manager was setting up an appointment for me, I said "sorry if I Scared you helper"

Yea, you did, he though you were here to arrest him!

I let it go at that.

also ate dinner at El-Maguey Exit 15 off of 75 in Monroe........while they did not seem to mind me Ocing, the food was not the greatest!

Just joking with you. I OC all the time and have for about the last 18 months. It is just a given that I 'll be OCing as I leave the house. I don't even think about it anymore.

I have never had anything to comment about except the incident at Food Town in Temperance and that's in another thread so I won't go into it here.

Weather you OC< or CC just carry.

I totally understand, i try to put some names of the new places i go to and some of the old ones if i haven't named them in a while.

I know of only 4 of us down here that OC and the posts for Monroe county are far and few in between

the thread is here and hopefully some of those coming to monroe who are Ocing may use it for a point of reference.

I been trying to hit different restaurants lately then my usual  hang outs to get a little more feelings of the general business, so far so good never been confronted.

I dont get over to your part of town too often, just travel through a few time a week on Lewis from Maybee to toledo

take care

My wife had Oral surgery this AM in Monroe and as we were leaving for the doctors office she bellows..........."you don't need to bring those GD things with you, its a doctors office, nothing is going to happen there"

and with that I snapped back, "can you guarantee it?"

She headed out to the car and plunked down in the car huffing and puffing all the way to the car while I was adjusting my belt and applying my guns to my attire.

We walked in the drs office and sat down and waited to be called in to the surgical room.  As we waited I took off my jacket.  my guns were blocked from view from most due to the sitting arrangement, but my BUG's handle was visible as I was carrying that IWB.

After her surgery the nurse came out and said I could now go in to sit with the wife while she recuperated from the drugs they gave her.  As I picked up her belongings from the chair my weapon was eye level to about 10 old and I mean OLD people.  There were several wide eyes but no gasps or screams or anything

as I walked back to the area my wife was at, one of the nurses eyes went from my eyes down to the gun, not a word.  I was in there for about 1 hours talking to several nurses and the Doctor with not one issue

OCed the other day at rivers edge pizza in Dundee the other day. Had to wait 30 minutes for a deep dish pizza with only 6 other people there. Also listened to the waitress give excuses to why everyone else had their orders messed up.  Her man answer was new owners and the old staff quit. They also ran out of chips and fries the night before and had to run to kroger to have some on hand. Not sure I will be back

Have you had any issues with OC in Meijers or Walmart?  They are two of my places I go because they are handicap friendly.  Just a bit nervous because I figure those will be the first two  I OC too.  I am not a Monroe County person, although, I love your airport...been there a lot.

We have a Airport :o

na just kidding, of course we have a airport, well kinda

ha

no issues with either here.  I go to walmart just about every day and Meijers once a week or so with no issues
in fact a couple weeks ago they were giving flu shots out up front by the checkouts at Walmarts.  I filled out my paperwork while the shot giver was working with another person for about 5 minutes then it was my turn, the girl shot giver was already flustered by the last person and I was joking with her and the other ladies on the check out lanes, strong side to the lanes, telling them if I fainted they would have to pick me up and put me on one of the checkout lanes and to make sure I don't hit my head when I fall, etc, no issues in total I was there about 15 to 20 minutes

In Monroe's Walmart and Meijers no one issue in over 15 month since I began Ocing

UPDATE:  just noted in one of your other post elsewhere you state that you let your cpl expire

You can NOT even go on the property of Walmart or Meijers WITHOUT a valid CPL when in possession of a weapon

they both are licensed under the Michigan Liquor commission to sell beer and wine thus without a CPL you may not even enter their parking lot with a pistol.  This includes it locked and secured in your trunk.

I dont have the cite for that at 5 am but its well established and known..............get your cpl back if you plan on open carrying, it takes a lot of the hassle out of the equation

Because I had just come from a funeral, as usual I CC.  As I got off my bike in the parking lot of Big Blue BBQ in Monroe, i lifted up my jacket to OC my gun.

Walked in took off my jacket exposing my Bug SW40  in my shoulder holster.

As I was eating some mild looks, and just at the end of lunch, in comes two Monroe County Sheriff officers and sat in the booth one over from me.  as the Sheriff on the far side sat down he glanced over at me and by his facial expression, it seems to me he MAY have noticed my SW40.

He never missed a beat and he went on talking to his partner

at the end of lunch I stood up put on my jacket and left.  No issues

Any one can put it here, I just stated it and seems to the one who contributes the most.  Its not a personal Journal, I want others to add their experiences here as well.

Reason I started it, Take Iron County, for example, while reading about Ocing there is interesting, right now it has little value to me since I have not been up there in 10 years no do I plan on going back up there in the future, but its nice to see what is going up up there without going through 21,000 posts in the general OC experience area.

Oced today at walmart, got a Stink eye stare down from some guy but as soon as I made eye contact he stopped stinking on me!

Outside Walmarts as I was getting in my car when a guy in a car pulled up behind my car as ask me if I was carrying my gun ilegal since he thought my gun had to be concealed. He was told he had to keep it hidden when he got his "CCW" (that was the first clue he was uninformed), I told him no, open carry is within the law and said to him "let me give you one of my cards for me info", but he said no traffic in the parking lot was too bad and that he was just courious! Then drove off

should have been faster!!!!

Isn't the Secretary of State office a government building?   I often thought about open carrying in there, but thought it was on the list of gun free zones.  I have a CPL.

You may carry in any state office building like any other place.  Concealed or Open -- your choice.

I personally know DTMB (the people who run the buildings) has given training to people on how to handle an MWAG -- they even credited our group -- that's actually how I found out about MOC.

Been a while since I posted here.  Yesterday went to the Monroe County Fair, in Attendance with me was my 32 year old son from VA (CPL) who Open Carried one of my pistols.  Walked around, put the grand kids on the rides spend way too much money, walked down one isle where two Monroe County Sheriffs were sitting on a cart, my son noticed them looking at us and we just kept on the route we were taking.  My son noted they are on the move.  with that i watched as they passed me by and headed down the road to our south, about 30 feet away, one on his radio.  The went to the end of the road and waited as we passed, they just chatted and watched us, that was the last time we seen them.  Walked into the small Monroe county Sheriff's display the had there with all the guns they used in their service.  Asked the Deputy if the Tommy Gun was one the department used in the past, he said yes.  We walked out.  My son laughed as we got got out of ear range and said boy was he giving your gun the stink yes...maybe it was Pistol envy???

all in all a very good day to OC at the Monroe County Fair 2012

Oced over twice over the last 2 weeks at the Ellis branch of the Monroe County Library system.  My grandson is in town and wanted some books to read, so we headed to the library.  I had to get a library card so I had to work for about 20 minutes with a librarian and then after she entered all my info into the system we headed over to the kids section where she helped my grandson pick out the books he wanted, then she helped us check them out via the electronic check out.  On the second visit we picked up ordered books.  I seen a couple looks but no one bothered us as we did our business............all in all a good day.........

OC'd to Ihop and Lowes on West Road in Woodhaven with my wife, step-son and step-daughter. Only had a couple of odd looks by an elderly couple as I held the door open for them, and one waitress glared a bit. During dinner my step-son and I were talking guns, and my wife actually said she may go for her CPL. I about fell out of my chair! Not that she is anti-gun, but she isn't comfortable carrying. Told her the only way to get comfortable is take the class, go to one of the MOC seminars (we are planning to go to the one at Ganders on the 20th) and carry, even if only around the house to start with. We shall see what happens, should prove interesting.

Excellent!  Two of the things that I used to encourage my wife to get her CPL was for the extra training and legal knowledge and to avoid any problems if I left my handgun in the car to go in a PFZ.  She doesn't carry but she has her CPL and she is glad she got it.

Good luck ... I hope she goes for it!   :)

OC'd today at Todd's Guns in Lambertville for some ammo. Got invited down to my wife's cousin's farm to do some shooting and was a little short on target rounds for my Glock's and my unmentionables. Then went to Monroe Bank and Trust in Erie to get some papers notarized and walked around Erie and stopped at the Post Office to drop the notarized papers in the mail. I of course stayed outside and my wife ran the papers in. There was a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy at Todd's, he never batted an eye and just asked what model Glock I was carrying. I told him and we had a nice chat about open carry. All in all good times.
