Ive been reading about experiences here and on OCDO. For those of you who have gone into Meijer, have you run into the Greeter standing right at the entrance? What were those interactions like?
-
The two main greeters at the Caledonia Meijer on Kalamazoo return my smile and nod every time. Zero issues.
-
I haven't tried that with Meijer with their greeters. I typically do not open carry if I am with someone because I don't want them to have me asked to leave somewhere and they get stuck going in alone or whatever. I don't need to have an argument with one of my friends about open carrying and have them pissy with me for having to leave somewhere. I am usually with someone when I am out so I don't OC often. Perhaps I will go to meijer tomorrow and see what happens, I need milk anyways.

No issues. I regularly OC at the Meijer in Okemos and occasionally in South Lansing (near Holt). Never a problem. One time I was OCing in the summer and wearing an OCDO polo shirt while checking out at the self-check in the Meijer Okemos and the self-check attendant held me up wanting to talk about getting a CPL and the different types of pistols. I advised him not to carry a "Detective's .38 Special" snubby revolver he was asking about. Yes, there were people behind me waiting to check out.

What's wrong with carrying a. 38spl chiefs special?
-
Cause 17 rounds of 9mm is better than 6 rounds of .38?
-
What's wrong with carrying a. 38spl chiefs special?
Ergonomics
Hard to shoot
Trigger
Short sight radius
Limited round capacity
Slow to reload
Inferior round
Other than that, it's a fine weapon.
-

I used to carry a S&W Airweight .38 as a BUG, but never a primary.

I OC in the Jenison Meijer often. Say hi to the greeter every time. Even stopped and talked to one about his sweet custom motorcycle. Never a problem.
-
Have OC'd at Standale Meijers every week for about 8 months now, never an issue.

Usually the greeter says welcome to Meijers, and I go to Meijers alot!
-
my brother works at meijer in lennox township. 26 mile and I-94. he says people OC all the time. no issues or incidents
-
my brother works at meijer...he says people OC all the time. no issues or incidents
Can't be. I read on MLive that OC is very rare, and since no one does it the police should stop them!
-
lmfao. he stocks in grocery, he sees people OC all the time. said one guy had a wicked looking stainless gun with a light and all types of crap on it. i OC there alot as well. no issues.
-
I work at Meijer and I have seen a couple people OC... but I work at night so who knows how many we get during the day.
What was amusing was that the Night Shift Store Director was worried about a guy OCing, but didn't believe we could say anything to him about it unless he was concealed carrying... our corporate policy does allows for customers to carry open or concealed... our "security" even agreed.
-
Aren't people that OC shot first?
How do they live long enough to make it to Meijers?
-

I hate it when that happens.

Guilty as charged, I was there this week OCing. Not a word was said, no issues.
-
Three Meijers in Kalamzoo area, oc in all of them. Also in the Owosso/corunna store. No problems at any of them. Greeters are always friendly.
-
meijer is one of those places that allow the state a fed laws to dictate their rules of firearms

That's what happens to me.
And it's usually with my own gun that they grab from my non-retention holster.
-
I oc at the 28th and Kalamazoo store all the time now. The only "issue" I had was when another customer looked up from their cart, saw me and made a bee line to the nearest employee. I ducked in the next aisle and hear the employee tell the guy that what I was doing is legal and company policy is to follow state laws regarding firearms.

Do it all the time at Meijer in West Bloomfield. New years eve I had to do some last minute shopping and was carrying my Blackhawk Thigh RIG with a my G-30 no issues but many did notice. Its hard to miss... Now I am sure I was noticed by the store personell however nobody said a word.
-
I have gone to Meijers a few times and the people standing there just look at me rather than just saying " Hello, and welcome to Meijers. I hope you take a glance at our handgun ammo in isle 28 on the top shelf " but maybe its because I wink and blow kisses to them.
-
I quite often go to Meijer on west main st in Oshtemo. I have had a conversation with one of the greeters based on the way she greeted me the first time I saw her. She, being observant noticed my pistol / holster and then calmly said "welcome...... " Anyway, on the way out I told her how much I appreciated her not only greeting people but also that I noticed she was observant. The greeter went on to say something along the lines of that is part of the job.

Did you like scamper off and then dodge and then duck in the next lane over? that would have been funny, maybe a little suspicious. ???

I have OC'ed quite a bit to Meijer in Howell and person at the door greets me just the same as they do everyone else. I've gotten a few looks, but people just seem to mind their own business and move on. If you carry yourself like you are doing nothing wrong people don't bother you.
-
I actually think that Meijers is going to be the first place I OC once I get the "balls" to do it but I don't think I'm quite ready yet (still learning everything).

I like that map. Its funny how people gravitate to these stores for their fist OC. My first time OC was in Walmart and Meijer(with CPL). I'm glad I found it to un eventful. It really helped ease me into feeling comfortable with OC. I now OC in PFZ all the time and in the warmer months its nice to not feel the burden to CC in the warm weather.

My first concealed was at Meijer 10 minutes after I got my CPL Then I exchanged a remote to wide open west near my house. I believe my first OC was in a 7-11 other than around my neighborhood.
-
No I don't have a CPL. Now with you asking that means I have missed something in my research so guess I will have to keep researching.

Meijer has a liquor license. You must have a CPL to carry (concealed or open) in any place that has a liquor license. MCL 750.234d

Alright I'm lost, where is the FAQ Thread?? I'm sure I'm missing it somewhere
-
I have OCd in all but one of the area Meijers, give me time and I will get to the them all.
-
There's only one Meijer in the Grand Rapids area where I'd be hesitant of carrying. But in time I'm sure I'll make a stop there.
-
28th and Kalamazoo? just curious.

-
Cheapest prices of all Meijers in West Michigan according to people I know at corporate. if that gives you incentive to make a stop.
-

Huh? You mean the prices aren't uniform across all Meijer stores? I thought they were.

I agree, sounds like an urban legend to me.
-
Not sure if you guys are being sarcastic or not. But stores do it all the time. They set prices based on their core customer economic demographic. This is also why ads included in newspapers and junk mail are distributed by area.

No, we're serious. At least I am. I had no idea I would pay more for a gallon of milk or carton of eggs at one Meijer over another.

We should come up with a list of 5 - 10 common items and have a few volunteers go check it out at a couple of different stores. I might volunteer to go to the infamous store at 28th and Kalamazoo to compare pricing.
-
happens with all stores. I'm sure even Walmart does the same thing. I would love to see prices compared at Cascade Meijer vs Kalamazoo/28th Meijer
-
I have so many Meijers near me I could participate.

Why is that Meijer infamous?

Where have you been???
-
Product selection varies amongst stores too.
In Waterford, I could get thai rice noodles and almost any Indian simmer sauce you can think of. Mason Meijer... nope.
-
Where have you been???
Shopping at the Okemos Kroger.

This ^ I work retail and they are correct, it pertains to Demographics. Walgreens in Dundee is more expensive on certain items compared to stores in Monroe. And some adds may not be available in all areas or they just won't carry the same products. Just the way it is.

I go to the 28th and Kzoo store all the time. Never seen any issues. I usually go at night too. Scary stuff man. :D I use to get hit up for money and rides a lot but that all came to an abrupt end once I started open carrying.
