Im 18 years old and im looking to purchase my first handgun. Although i would like to CC i don't mind OCing and i even feel more empowered to do so after reading all of these posts lol. Now i know i have to go to my police station to register to buy a gun and what not but is there an additional class i can take so i can have the gun in my car without getting in trouble? if so where would i take it at?

also what are some known businesses where you can OC without a problem (ive already read the chart)

The gun must be unloaded and in your trunk in a case that is designed to hold a gun.
You may not OC in:
*A financial institution
*Any place that is licensed to sell liquor (this includes most gas stations, grocery stores, and party stores)
*K-12 school
*Day cares
*Churches
*Entertainment facilities over 2,500 seating capacity
*Hospital
*Dorm/College classroom
*casino
*Sports arena
Also note: Community colleges and Universities are not covered under preemption.
I'd advise you read the laws very carefully if you intend to OC w/o a CPL.

OC in Lowes, Home Depot, Best Buy, Art Van, National Coney Island(some locations serve beer so those are a no no) Target Sports, Bass Pro, Gander Mtn, Dicks...

What if the vehicle has no trunk?
There are certain "fanny packs" that are so designed for carry of a gun. Would this be allowed as "a case that is designed to hold a gun"?

There are certain "fanny packs" that are so designed for carry of a gun. Would this be allowed as "a case that is designed to hold a gun"?
I didn't tell him everything as you know it is very complicated. I did refer him to the source in hopes that he reads. I also told him some common things. I hope he reads the source and asks more specific questions.

OC without CPL is a very VERY complicated and risky thing to be doing. I hope you know what you could be getting yourself into. You better research and know the laws TO A "T" if you are going to do it. I researched for like 4 months to understand it all and feel comfortable should I have an exchange with the police.
To each their own, but know that if you screw up, you could be looking at a FELONY. Do not take your responsibility lightly. If you mess up it coudl limit your ability to carry in the future.

It is important to know the law. However don't let that little piece of blue paper or plastic if you have the newer CPL make you over confident. You are still not immune to a bad cop. In reality you can be falsely charged for anything! CPL or not. Example: Brandishing - how would you prove you did not unholster your weapon? Your word against a cops, :o guess who wins? This is precisely why instead of discouraging Non CPL OC, we should be encouraging it. Why? Because if you can imagine pulling up to a parking lot & seeing 3 people un-casing their pistols / loading /holstering and walking in some place be it an Arby's / McDonalds / Starbucks etc... on a daily basis in towns all across MI. The point is the more the merrier! Also it may help promote positive changes in carry laws, such as legal non CPL OC transport to reduce the amount of loading/unloading a non CPL holder does [less handling = less chance for accidents]. Michigan law baffles me often as it is legal for me to carry an pistol etc.. down the street but if I want a non lethal option in addition such as a taser LOOK OUT you could kill someone with that thing ??? :'( Figure that one out?
The more OC becomes "an everyday sight" for police and the general public, the less likely OCers are to be harassed. ;)

Believe me G-oldstyle... I"m not trying to discourage anyone.. I"M just making sure that someone who maybe isn't as wise and responsible as they will be when they're 25 or 30 doesn't get themselves into any hot water by making a small mistake that can cost them for a long time.
I think it's great if the kid wants to OC... he just better know wtf he's doing and the consequences if he screws up.

Yes do come to a OC picnic. This is a safe way to get lots of good information & you don't need to carry if you are not ready yet. If you do decide to carry make sure you know the transport laws inside & out. Is a fanny pack more a "holster" than a case? I have heard people refer to a holster as a case. I suppose it would come down to case law to determine this.

I would say a fanny pac is concidered more OUTDATED than anything... lol... Sorry, I couldn't resist! lol
