Folks,
I anticipate transitioning where the forums are hosted late this evening or early tomorrow morning (call it a maintenance window of 2200-0600), as well as upgrading the software while I'm at it. Bas
If all goes according to plan, downtime should be around an hour tops.
During the process, the forum will be in "Maintenance Mode" and you won't be able to post or really do much of anything else.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

What's your backout plan? Murphy's law. If you have one, you never need it.

My backout plan is that if things are looking to go sideways, DNS doesn't get changed and I disable Mx mode.

Blah Blah Blah.
Sounds good.
-
Actually, I'm holding off for now.
Wide Open West is being shady, and I really don't need a connection to drop mid operation.
The *best* part is that Bluehost won't let me run screen!
I'm going to wait until tomorrow when I get into work - early.

I have linux boxes in two Tier 3 datacenters and one Tier 4 datacenter that support screen. I'm guessing you do too.
Let me translate for Pat... Blah Blah, Blah Blah Blah Blah.

Now I can understand that. Thanks Dan!!!

miopenca@miopencarry.org [~/public_html/ocforum]# screen -S evac
Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied
Yeah... it's that good..
Also, for shits and giggles, I decided to turn up the frequency of smokeping. 20 pings at 30 second intervals (as compared to the default 5 minute) - just so if I ever feeling like smacking WoW around, I can:
The WAN gateway my modem is talking to:

Inside my house to show it's not my problem:

Alright, now that I'm sure I have a good connection, work should begin shortly.
-
By the clock I was going by..
Mx Mode On: 0614
MxMode Off && DNS Changed Over: 0655
Also, notice the latest version of SMF is in use

Well done, Jason. I recall a certain other gun org updated their Forum and they were down for over a week...beyond their maintenance window.

I can't remember - does that certain other gun org pay their staff?

I don't know if MGO does...I don't think so.

Oh, by the way, this is the difference in latency between the old host and the new one:

Is that why I can click something and not wait 20 seconds for it to load like it used to? lol

did we move from a shared host to a vps? or is this just an (over) subscription policy difference?
Then again, I manage 8 apache hosts that have 1,600 - 3,200 concurrent connections and don't have load like that. (We also offload SSL termination to the load balancer)
isn't it more like
Blah blah blah magic happens blah blah blah?
I've inserted a box in an application flow visio diagram that said "magic happens here."
-
Indeed it was a move from a shared server to a VPS.
Last I looked, LW doesn't even run it's shared boxen that hard.
Of course, it's bluehost, so who the hell knows how they operate, other than shittilly.
-
I'm noticing a few problems.
a) embedded video no longer working
b) message reply box extends off screen with no scroll bar below using Chrome. Firefox and IE exhibit no problems. See attached image.
-
Ctrl + F5 should fix most of this. Sounds like cached css to me.
I had a problem with b) until I refreshed.
-

Youtube test
-
Looks like the Aeva auto-embed package isn't working.
-
Also it looks like right now that pluging doesn't support > 2.0.1
-

:woohoo:
-
Also it looks like right now that pluging doesn't support > 2.0.1
Is there another, comparable plugin?
-
That's what I'm working on right now.
Although it seems for some reason attempting the install script for the last plugin I tried was causing it to chmod /home/miopenca to 777 which:
1. Is bad
2. cPanel doesn't like with suPHP, which causes the forums not work work (you may have noticed this a few minutes ago)
I'm actively working this issue.
-
Got another plugin installed, and it looks like it has the capability to support more than just youtube, although I only have youtube enabled right now.
-
IS it now.

Just wanted to post a public "thank you" to Jason for the website hosting upgrade, Drupal upgrade, and all the other things he's done. Our website and forum are very responsive, and the website reorganization and new features are great. Your continued efforts are sincerely appreciated.

Of course I have to give credit to jreese and jsteinmetz for the initial work getting MOC to where it was at. I just took the ball and ran.
