Title: Hello from Deerok
Post by: Deerok on May 07, 2014, 12:30:28 AM
Hi, guys been lurking on this place for a while and made an account back in 2012 when I hit 18 been looking to get a handgun since and just today finally picked up a gen 4 Glock 19 from a private party as I soon will be 20 . I'm looking for suggestions on a holster, mag pouch, recording device, and a list of any relevant courtcases pertaining to police encounters. Also looking for a welcoming to any upcoming events so I hopefully may join my brethren. I have an updated printed out version of the msp update, and moderate knowledge of firearms and a growing knowledge of cpl/oc laws.

I want to give a shoutout to theQ, CommanderIceman, and Stainless.  I have read like all your posts and watched some of your youtube/audio footage, it's inspirational and empowering.

Thanks,
Derek

Welcome from Okemos. :)

Holster recommendation: Safariland ALS or SLS.  They also have a new 7TS (injection molded) version of those two hoslters. Online (Optics Planet, Cheaper Than Dirt, etc.) will be the cheapest places to buy these.

Digital recorder: Sony ICD-PX333 (used to be called ICD-PX312) or equivalent ($49)

Hello Deerok, glad to have you with us.  I know there are a lot on here that love the ALS system and on the belt it might be, I have not tried that yet, I have an ALS shoulder holster rig, but, I have a Bianchi 82 model and I love it.  It is a retention holster, OWB for open carry when needed, much thinner than the ALS and is about $60 of Amazon.  You can get it in black or Tan.  I have a blackhawk nylon belt and would suggest trying a good leather gun belt.  I just think it might be more comfortable.  If I were closer I would show you the two holsters and let you make up your mind from there.  Either one you decide to go with it will take training to quickly get the pistol out.

Federal HST.  Here's how the 124 and 147 performed. You'll get even better performance out of a 4" G19 barrel.

Ammo Quest 9mm: Federal HST 124 grain tested in ballistic gelatin test review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lGqdMdbir0#ws)
Ammo Quest 9mm: Federal HST 147gr standard pressure test in ballistic gel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3VfWkWMzOI#ws)

Lots of Good info and pics in this thread, too.

Where did you find the HST??  It has been pretty scarce lately.  I carry HST 147 grain in my larger 9 mm's, 230 gr HST in my 45's, and I was lucky and found some 124 gr for my Sig 938.  I think it is great SD ammo.

You can get pretty much anything now I think.  Everyone has 5.7 again (ordered some more yesterday) and I heard Dicks had .22LR 2,000 rounds for $129.

Both SGAmmo and AmmoDepot have HST for $28.95/box 50.  Even Cabela's has it on sale, but at $21.95/box 20 :yikes: it is still a rip-off.
