Title: Legality of carrying Voice Recorder while at work
Post by: Rustykeys on April 17, 2013, 01:21:44 PM
Just wondering what the legality of carrying a voice recorder at is. Tired of the he said she said and assistant manager putting words in my mouth. Want to get to the bottom of this with proof for my manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

If you are a party to the conversation, you should be ok. Michigan is a one party state, meaning only one party to the conversation has to provide consent. If you are in public and there is no expectation of privacy, then you are even more ok.

They could always fire you for doing it though.

Good point. I was thinking legality and not necessary company policy.

I doubt that a firing would happen. But a reduction in force might be more likely.
