Title: MCRGO is backing out of SAM

MCRGO's board voted today to not participate in the 2016 Second Amendment March.

The board opted not to participate in the Second Amendment March in 2016 due to concerns over the media narrative and instead with hold a recognition event for incidents involving the legal use of firearms for self defense.

The concerns mentioned are that the media has spun the event to reflect poorly on gun owners by highlighting the 1-2 people carrying irresponsibly, stating it's causing schools to cancel trips, calling it an open carry event, giving equal time to MDA even when they don't show up, etc. The feeling was that a recognition event for incidents involving justified use of firearms for self defense will take the focus off the guns and place it where it belongs -on self defense. The other concern expressed has been about declining attendance from 2013-2015 despite strong efforts by all the organizations to turn out members.

The media tried to associate SAM with open carriers?
Heaven Forbid!
MCRGO cannot let the stench of OC get in the way of their important work to license the crap out of gun owners!

MCRGO has selected Arlan Meekhof as their 2015 Legislator of the Year. A senator who introduced all of 2 bills this year (all bills, not just gun bills). One of those two is SB 561 which makes Open Carry, as well as any accidental exposure while concealing, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine, 90+ days in jail, and an 8 year loss of one's license as well as a felony for the second offense in a school. A bill that has been widely repudiated by the rest of the Michigan and even national gun community.
