Title: OC in Ann Arbor
Post by: abrknight on June 07, 2013, 07:40:03 PM
I'm relatively new to open carry, but have been doing it more regularly recently. I live in west Ann Arbor and regularly OC while taking my kids for walks around the neighborhood and have never had a negative encounter. In fact, what I thought was going to be one, actually turned out to be a guy who was genuinely curious and thinking about purchasing his first hand gun due to some recent home invasions.

Besides that I regularly carry in Kroger, and today OC'ed at 53rd bank for the first time. I also OC in Meijer and the local liquor store. On the few occasions that someone has said something it's always been positive.

I've dabbled with OC downtown but it's a very tricky area as U of M owns a lot of the real estate and leases it to local businesses.

Anyway, I always enjoy reading the experiences of other so I thought I'd share.

Nice to see another OC'er in Ann Arbor!

I also live in West Ann Arbor.. we'll have to set up a lunch sometime.

Out of the months of open carrying here, i still havn't had any negative encounters which is actually very surprising to me.   Only confrontation i had, was at the chase bank at the Chase Bank that's near the Briarwood Mall.. If you havn't yet, check that thread out.

How about one of you local chaps pick a local restaurant, talk to them, and work with our regional coordination staff to make a lunch/dinner? :)

Absolutely, and I did read your about your experience at Chase bank, it actually inspired me to carry in my bank.

I OC'd at Belle Tire on Washtenaw last Friday, then onto Walmart in Saline, stopped at a gas station in Milan. All good except for an older gentleman at Walmart giving me the evil eye while I was in the electronics department. The look on his face reminded me of Jeff Dunham's Walter. LOL Nothing was said though. Good day all in all for OC'ing.

walked the dog again ...  went to Meijers on Ann Arbor Saline Road.  I said Hi to my neice and a friend.  However, this makes the third time in a row Pittsfield Police was driving in as I was leaving.

I am just left to wonder

Meijer is supposed to have the same company policy as Walmart...they follow the laws of the state regarding open carry..it could just be coincidence.

I know they do, I just scratch my head after the last 3 visits.     I was at Jackson Road this morning.   And let a couple kids shoot trap this afternoon.

I opened carried my new Glock 19 in the Meijer on Lohr road.  Nothing there.. some looks, but nobody seems as troubled as i'd expect, right after that DC incident.

That's interesting.  The fifth third bank that I use is in Toledo, (I live in Michigan near the state line) is a CPZ.   I thought it was a nationwide policy.  I'll have to check the branch in Lambertville, MI.

I think they leave it up to the branch managers.  I OC in my 5/3 all the time but I know a branch a few miles up the road had issue with a friend that OC'd there.

I have been to TCF on Stadium on many occasions, yesterday afternoon too.  I got gun questions but nothing negative.   I have also been to 5/3 and Comerica bank.    Had someone state that Michigan was Open Carry state.    I had to inform them that the Check and go across the street was robbed just the week before.    Now keep in mind that was a couple years ago.

I OC at the local 5/3 (Clinton Twp.) all the time. Haven't had any problems. Although I went to elementary school with the branch manager.

Good evening everyone,  I was at Skyline HS for the music and a meal.  While in line for seconds Officer Ford, asked why I carry.  He fished for 2A, fear, or safety.   I told him it was mostly to protest and to demonstrate that I am not am not the bad guy.  As the county commissioners and city officials think I am.  After he left, a gentleman behind me told me that his friend was escorted out of the Ypsi HS for OC with a CPL.   And I had more questions from another gentleman behind him.

3 years, little to nothing... Oh well

After milling the crowd for most of dinner. The officer sat with me and the MIL until the doors opened.  He also stood with me during the concert.   During our conversation, the administration had called in the request.  Knowing I would be there.      We shook hands an parted ways after the end.

Now this is where I would ask,  Should I approach the principal?

Why bother? The administrators know what you were:

A) There for a lawful purpose

B) Were conducting yourself in a lawful manner

C) Not going to leave without an unlawful arrest.

Let the "authorities" deal with them.
