How do you work private sales?  To buy a rifle, would someone have to call the FBI for a background check?

Oh, and furthermore, do that many people even attend these things?  Do they bring anything other than junk?  And what if you buy a stolen gun?

And if this is as good as it sounds, is anybody from Berrien county going and willing to share a ride?  Just curious.

Great questions.

I've only been to a couple. It works like this:  hundreds of people show up to drop off guns in exchange for gift cards. We stand on the sidewalk and offer cash. Most people still choose to turn their guns into the police. A few will be happy to get cash instead of a gift card. Finding willing sellers is the tricky part.

Purchasing a rifle or shotgun does not require any paperwork.

There is no way to verify if a gun is stolen. Just like there is no way to verify if a used refrigerator is stolen.

Handguns require either a purchase permit or an ri60 and a cpl.

Nobody wants to buy a stolen item. I ask if the gun is stolen. If I get a bad answer or a bad feeling then I walk away from the deal.

Its like gambling..Most guns are beat up but are still functional.  Once in a great while some real nice guns come along.

Nearly any functioning non-stolen firearm is worth $50 to me.

is there a "set" giftcard amount, or do they go based off gun?  Is this a way to get a good "deal" on a gun, or is it more just to save the guns from the evil machine???

IIRC:

Long gun: $50
Pistol: $100
Semi-auto rifle: $150

I think any semi-auto rifle is $50.  Only "assault weapons" are $150.

I refuse to use the word "assault weapons"
