I'm figuring that you were open carrying on the boat ride over to the island?

The only sign I saw was a sign stating that they have the right to search anything (and any body)... I did not find that to be an issue as I wasnt hiding anything.   did not see one no gun sign or firearm sign.

I doubt the ferry can take away your 4th ammendment right with an illegal search...

but hey, it's 2011...

The 4th Amendment protects us from government agency's, well, it is supposed to, but it is not applicable to private property or business.

I saw a MI State Trooper this weekend in Clarkston (likely from the Holly post on Dixie).  He was filling his gas tank as I drove past him and parked on the opposite side of the same island, under the canopy so my dog could have some shade (and left the car/ac running), as I ran in to grab a cold drink.

I got out of the car and turned strong side (OWB Serpa) with my full-size stainless para gi expert and went in to purchase my drinks.  I walked past him again on my way out (weak side with fobus kydex double spare mags OWB) as he was spinning the cap shut on his gas tank.  He looked up and simply nodded.  I nodded back.

These are the stories that give me hope for Michigan.  :)

OC'd in Durand last week at a few businesses.  Only one comment, 'do you have one of those OC permits?'

OC'd this morning at my chiropractor's office. No comments from her staff and no comments about my 1911 from the Dr. as I put my gun belt, mags, and serpa paddle back on.

First time OCing in a larger public place!  OC'd at Mejier in Wixom/Novi.  Only stopped in to get some ink for my printer.  At least a few people noticed.  No issues.  :)

I thought you said you didn't have your CPL.

OCing in meijer without a CPL is a felony if I"m not mistaken...  maybe not a felony, but a BIG no-no.   You can't OC or even possess (meaning boxed and locked in yoru vehicle) on the premises (meaning parking lot or anywhere on the property) of a place that has a liquor license...     and no BRONSON, I don't have a cite..  lol... I'm depending on you for that good buddy!   :D

I have my CPL.  :)

Recieved it last month.  8)

I did A LOT of research before considering open carry.  While I think the cited law is unconstitutional, I don't have the money or the time to be a test case, so I am VERY careful where I carry period.  OC or otherwise.  My wife and I decided not to OC at all until we recieved our CPLs.  In fact, it took a bit of convincing for her to be OK with me OCing by myself even at Mejier.

And yes, we picked up recorders (a very sad neccessity if you ask me, but I run it anytime I'm out the door packing).

Thanks for the concern and info though!

Last night, I had a customer do a couple double-takes at my gun when getting his clothes from the dryer at a local laundromat.  He said, 'Cocked, locked, and ready to rock, eh?'.  I said, 'Always, and everywhere'.  "You are one of the smart ones', he said, and told me that he was CC'ing.

OC'd at Kroger this morning, like I do every week, and had an older gentlemen ask 'Do you work for Roseville or EastPointe?'.  To which I replied, 'Neither, just a citizen'.  He chuckled a bit and said, 'You don't trust anyone?  Do you?'.  I LOL'd and just told him I like to be prepared, as it is a pretty crazy world.

Another member commented on why he carries by saying: "I carry this (pistol) because I can't carry a cop.)

OC'd at the Lansing picnic, then to Jimmy Johns downtown the walked around downtown up by the capital and then on michigan and washington.

I suspicion some people crossed to the other side of the street after seeing my sidearm, but I walked across the street and one LPD cruiser went by as I stood on the corner, and another drove thru the intersection as I crossed the street, no problems.  No comments.  No learing.  Was a nice day for a picnic and a walk.

Had a very good experience today.  OC'd and went to my apartment complex office to pick up some rent envelopes and on my way out, one of the maintainance crew approached me and asked: "Are you a part of Michigan Open Carry?".  I replied that I was and we had a 20 minute conversation about MOC and OC in general.  He apparently reads the forums here often but has never created an account.  We discussed everything from guns, safety, crime to OC events and picnics.  Overall, a very good experience and I hope to see this gentleman stop in and maybe create an account!

Oh, and there were a group of small children playing on the sidewalk just a few feet away and not a one ran off screaming in terror...

It was finally cool enough yesterday to have my shirt tucked in so I was OCing while out-n-about in Battle Creek.

Went to Barnes & Noble to pick up an e-reader for my girlfriend. The young girl with a face full of piercings at the info counter looked directly at my firearm as did the older lady at the register. No issues, nothing said.

The gf and I later went to Super China Buffet for dinner and they were packed. Again, no issues or problems.

After dinner we did some shopping at Meijer's on Beckley for about an hour...same thing, no problems nothing said.

Over the last few days OC'd in Lansing:

Menard's south lansing...  shopped for a bit, dealt with several sales people to find various items... took them out to my truck... had a nice OC conversation with a friend of mine I saw in the parking lot.. (he came out and instantly noticed my sidearm and said "cover that thing up"...   but I don't think he was serious) then went back in for some items I forgot.  I don't believe anyone even noticed...  dealt with someone in paint.. someone in plumbing... someone helped me find a fan...  then the cashier...  none of the shoppers saw except I think one older gentleman did and maybe was giving me the stink eye, but he could have just been a grump.

Panera in Frandor... walked in, but line was taking too long...  had to leave...     then went to Big John's....    I think one of the workers saw it, but didn't say anything.  None of the diners (10-15 people) saw or said anything even though I was standing at the pop machine strong side to the 3 people waiting to fill their cups.

McDonald's on M-99...  doesn't really count though just hung out in the back of the parking lot waiting to sell something.

I swear I went somewhere else but I can't remember...      Anyways, no problems, no comments, no screaming children.   Good OC.  Whole lotta nuthin...  like it should be.

tons of OC no issues no problem...one notable - was at a 7-11 and the foreign girl behind the counter did a joking fake hands in the air robbery thing. i asked her not to do that because somebody outside might see that and call the police thinking you are getting robbed. she said 'oh yeah. they might'
assisting manager and his wife at work on choosing a handgun for home defense and CC. going to teach them to shoot and dispel all the lies they will get told at the CPL class. his wife hates being alone and shuts all the lights off in her house and locks herself in her bedroom she said to keep people from thinking anybody is home. i told her to do the opposite. leave lights on and put sports on the living room tv so people think a guy is home. maccauley culkin knew to do it in 'home alone'.
i've become the self defense guru at my work. most of that job entails dispelling misinformation they get told by others and telling them the REAL law.

Ocing at Walmart (as I frequently do) the other day while buying a fishing license and a manager waited on me. A most excellent adventure dudes... He had many questions and some false information (as most do). I helped enlighten him to some truths and sent him here. I mentioned the web site and he scrambled for something to write on. Unfortunately I failed to bring trifolds... :-\ James was a pleasure to talk to!

OC'd at the laundromat for about 4 hours while I did load after load of stufff that got wet in my basement flooding...    The people who work there were sitting outside smoking when I first came up and asked about my sidearm and if it was legal.  I responded that it was and they asked what it was...   They asked me if I was a cop and I said no, just open carrying for self defense.  They asked a few more questions then that was it.

A couple people asked me questions during my time inside the laundromat and I also had other conversations with the workers and other people.  All around a friendly time.  Talked to people about OC... talked to people about the recent flooding in the area..

No children were seen screaming and crying to their mamas..  no old people ran from the building (in fact the old folks seemed approving ifyou can believe that) and all around was a good day for OC in my neck of the woods.  I should have brought some trifolds... whoops.

Told the people about the website and mentioned MSP update 86.
