Shooting last night in the parking lot.

Quote
Lansing police are investigating a report of shots fired near the Fleetwood Diner early Sunday morning.

Shots were fired in the parking lot outside the Fleetwood Diner at about 4 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Riley and South Cedar Streets in Lansing.

Police say no injuries were reported and no subjects are in custody as a result of the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

After some shopping tonight I stopped at the Fleetwood for a meal (OCing).  I talked with the Employees who were there the other night.  Apparently, the story (not in the papers) is as follows:

PersonA got his a$$ beat at a local bar by personB.  PersonB, after leaving the bar, went to the Fleetwood for a meal.  PersonA followed PersonB and an altercation ensued in the parking lot.  They made their way around the building to where the front door is (by the street/sidewalk) where one of them pulled a gun and a two person fire fight happened.  Amazingly, no one was seriously injured, including the two that were fighting.

The staff at the Fleetwood noticed my sidearm and were very friendly.  Some of the patrons nearby didn't like Open Carry.  One old and particularly cranky patron kept insisting I didn't know what I was talking about as some of his other fellows were asking me questions about OC.

You did ask the cranky patron to share his wisdom since you didn't know what you were talking about, right?

He just kept talking.  Listening wasn't a part of his agenda. *shrugs*

I certainly would have.

I love showing cranky old people what an old curmudgeon is really like.

Oh and to keep this on topic...

I OC'd in Ohio today. Service centers on turnpike. Motorcycle dealership. And a gas station.

I was careful to look foe "No gun" signs, since they have weight of law. Carrying past one is a crime in itself in Ohio. Owner doesn't need to ask you to leave. If they call the cops you're going to jail. Period.

Lots of OC today. First started out at my dentist office, then i went to Gamestop and picked up shadowrun and a fellow there asked me how long it took to get my CPL, thought that was a weird question but i gave em some info and a trifold (thx autosurgeon), from there i went to Mcdonalds for a small snack and a guy there asked me what kind of gun i had and i answered "1911" and he goes "I dunno what that is.." so i said ".45 ACP" and he goes "oh da big fawty fye.", from there i stopped at Meijers gas station with narry a look or question. From the gas station i stopped at Cracker Barrel for a wallet my sister was eyeballing last night but didnt have the money for, nice people there with no issues. After that I stopped at On Target to drool over my potential investments and talk to pat about 1911 mags (Factory Para mags suck and give me nose dip on the Speer Gold Dots), he showed me some Metalform mags i fell in love with, (will buy 3 here soon) along with crimson trace grip (good price). Anyways back OT, from On Target I stopped at MC Sports to see what prices they had on ammo, had a nice chat with the fellow there about defensive carry rounds. After MC Sports I went to a friends house and hung out there for awhile then when I left her house I needed more gas (13 MPG :/) so i stopped again at the Meijers gas station for gas and a chicken salad sandwich. No issues any place I went and i still have the same number of rounds as when i started so a good day for OC.

OC'd all over the place today.  Horrocks, no issues at all, Sam's club, same thing or so I thought, Shadow Bear just told me there was a guy in the meat dept. who did a classic double take and then stared wide eyed at my gun, didn't say anything and walked away.  I then went to Walmart (Grandville) talked with a couple of ladies about OC, educated them a little and offered a trifold, they declined and said they didn't own guns but were real happy to know others out there besides cops and criminals are carrying and looking out for their safety.  They thought it was cool that a gal was carrying a gun.   Talked with the manager in charge, he was checking stock in the vitamin aisle and he asked if I was in there a week or so ago carrying my gun and I told him "yes".  He said "That's great!"  "I don't have a problem with anyone open carrying as long as the gun stays in a holster on your hip and out of your hands."  I told him "No problem there," and thanked him for his good attitude toward OCing.  On to Meijer with absolutely no problems.  Some people just look and then look away like they don't want to acknowledge that there is a gun on my hip.

OC'd today at Carelink, Aunt Millie's bread store and Big Lots.  No issues at all, positive or negative.  Just as it should be.

OCed On Target in K-zoo to pick up some supplies, and Steel Magnolia's b-day present- Browning BAR in .30-06.

On the way home, took a long detour to Bullets & Barrels in Richland. Nice shop, good people. Adopted a homeless AO 1911 in 38 Super for an excellent price. Off to the range tomorrow!

OCd for the first time in a long time recently...  once at taco bell...  no problems, no issues...   decent food for once.

Hit meijers with no issues, not even any looks that I was aware of.   I usually wear a black coat so it seems to blend well.

OCd at gander mountain...  no issues, no problems.    Had a couple of guys come up near me while looking at ammo...  "Is that a .40?"   To which I replied yes sir...       "you a cop"?   My response was nope, just a regular guy...     I just OC....   he said, I've heard about that...    and proceeded to bestow his knowledge upon me of how I would become the first target, etc...      I had to styfle my groan, but the gentlemen were nice enough so I allowed them to finish.

After their 'education' for me, I offered one for them.  I explained that someone running in and shooting the place up would not instantly see my piece....  furthermore, watch, as I turn sideways, voila... it disappears!!     I also said that if someone was standing outside waiting to mug me, they, on the other hand would likely case me more, and WOULD see it and most likely decide on a softer target.  They cocurred that OC did have some merits.  I explained that it's not for everyone, and its really just a choice that one needs to make for themselves and what they think is best.  I told them it gives them more options if nothing else.

I also informed them that just because I"m OCing doesn't mean I"m not CCing as well.

I told them about MOC and MGO so maybe they'll check it out...who knows.   We shot the s**t a bit more about firearms and ammo and I bid them farewell.   I hope I had some influence on their thinking.

Good day for OC.  Carry on!!

B/A Florist in East Lansing
Starbucks in East Lansing
Meijer in Okemos
Starbucks in Okemos
Bluegill Grill in Haslett

Printed up some Gun Owners Support Starbucks fliers. Had a nice conversation with the barista at the Starbucks in East Lansing. I was at the Okemos Starbucks for 30 minutes, from 4:35 pm until 5:05 pm, but had to leave to meet my wife. Didn't see any other OCers there.  :(  Big smiles on the $2 bills all around.

Nice to meet the three of you!   That was my third Starbucks today.   No problem at any.   I talked to the servers and there was no sign of any boycott.

Spent the day out and about in Battle Creek. Took my son to Culvers for lunch. Then off to Fred Meyer Jewelers ( BTW I read the code of conduct at the Mall and it no longer mentions anything about weapons) to get the wifes watch repaired. Then it was off to Menards, Meijers and Family Video. No questions were asked. No one freaked out. and a good time was had by all. Gotta love that Culvers Custard 8)
