First thing I thought of was the DC sniper.  Good thing this guy appears to be less accurate so far.  Hope they get him off the streets soon.

Ohio had a series of sniper attacks around I-270 (Columbus) nine years ago, too.  They caught that guy the following year in Las Vegas.
