House took SB59 off agenda
« on: December 03, 2012, 11:56:25 AM »
Phillip. I got the email and called Representative Foster's office just now. I was told SB59 was taken off the agenda and will not be voted on tomorrow. I asked why and was told there are "issues with the bill as it is currently written".

Just an FYI.

I called back Representative Foster's office to get more details. The initial person I spoke with was Rob, but he said he did not know why it was taken off the agenda and transferred me to Jason. When I asked Jason what specific part of the legislation they had a problem with he told me he didn't know and suggested I contact Sen Green. When pressed further he stated "we are waiting to hear that everyone is in agreement with the language" before putting it up for vote.

We can hope and pray that our elected officials do the right thing here.

this was just posted on MCRGO FB page-

NEW SB 59 UPDATE: SB 59 will likely either run next Tuesday in the House Natural Resources Committee or be discharged from the committee later this week. However, we've now run into a problem with one committee member. Rep. Kurt Damrow,
a freshman Republican who was defeated in his primary election this summer, is telling other Republican committee members that gun owners oppose the bill. Damrow opposes SB 59 due to a conflict he has with his local sheriff. It would be helpful to contact the committee members, particularly the Republican members expressing your support for SB 59. You can easily e-mail those members by clicking on the link below.

On what grounds do gun owners oppose this bill?  MCRGO is no better than those inept newspaper story writers who leave out all the facts.

What conflict?  MCRGO is no better than those inept newspaper story writers who leave out all the facts.

So Damro, a lame-duck member, is opposing this in his last week because of his sheriff?  And he cares about his sheriff's opposition why?

If MCRGO is talking to Damro and others, give us the details.  Idiots.

ETA: I just signed up for MCRGO statewide updates.

Where have you been?!?! Don't you read the Michigan gun forums?

I'd say at least 15 - 20 OCers have made it their personal agenda to thwart this bill and jeopardize the benefit of this bill to nearly 350,000 gunowners statewide.

I know.  I don't suspect those dozen and a half are the ones Kurt Damrow was talking about.

I think that Randy didn't want protestors at his home so he blew smoke up MOC's ass by making everybody think he did his best and the house screwed this up, when in reality he had no intention of it going anyplace and all of this is running by the plan they already had in place.
